Do you believe the sound sounds better because of how it sounds, or is the sound indistinguishable from digital but sounds better due to the ritual of handling a slab of black plastic? It would be possible to replicate the error signature of vinyl using DSP if it's the sound which matters, in the same way as hipsters replicate bad analogue photography with shitty Insta filters.

You've nailed it. There are many small rituals that make a significant difference to our enjoyment of food, art, drugs etc etc.

The value or beauty of a copy or reproduction does not lie in it's accuracy. I spend months painting "realistic" images, which some people consider pointless in the context of modern photography.

Vinyl doesn't sound better because of the sound, it sounds better because you believe it does, which still means it sounds better because your brain tells you a lovely story about what better is. I'm fine with this.
