  • Tried 12 weeks of polarised training coming into the season. Plans from High North, been really impressed with their knowledge and help, Emma has answered all my questions and given loads of advice for free but it’s just not worked for me. Probs go back to TR next year, and less volume, seems to be quite effective for me.

I might just be fatigued but the mishaps (late start, dropped chain, stopped by cars) mean I almost certainly won’t qualify for the Nats and have no chance at the Stolen Goat series so I’m just sacking it in. I’ll probs do one or two local club ones on Mott St, ride out on the road bike, race then do a few hours in the lanes, like the old days.

If no turbo training for a couple of weeks translates to smashing Mott St I might see you on Ditching!

  • That’s interesting, I know there’s a lot of people that swear by polarised but do wonder if there’s tipping point of hours you have to do to make it work.

And clearly the TR approach has delivered results for you in the past, so makes sense to go back.

If you do fancy something a little different I reckon you’d absolutely smash the top end of Zwift racing but appreciate that’s not everyone’s cup of tea!

  • Yeah I reckon it's about even more volume for polarised. My understanding is that you want to be doing 80% Z2 and 20% intense stuff, but that split is number of sessions rather than time in zones.

When I could follow the plan closely I was doing 2x hard interval sessions a week and 2x zone 2 rides, which doesn't really add up.

I'm sure zwift would be fun, but I'm going to enjoy non competitive easy weekend rides with friends this autumn for a change. Might go running in the week too.
