i want a basket or something similar for my rear rack
panniers tend to foul my heels a bit so something I can bung a backpack in that sits on the top of the rack

Never seen one that isn't a huge bodge. Quite a few "trunk" style bags to sit on top rack are available. Probably too small though if you want "backpack" sized.

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/universal-rear-bike-basket-13l-500/_/R-p-1083?mc=8365778 decathlon might work. I see people dropping backpacks in similar type things.

What's the rack? Quite a few rack makers also make compatible baskets.

How big is the hole? A Hypalon repair kit might be suitable if its a nasty one.

My friend's XL Marin 4 corners isn't really playing nice with her old tubus rack. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that will fit over 29er tyres?

There’s a 29er specific version of that rack
But it looks like you could make it work with longer stays, Tubus uses proprietary round stays so you’ll have to buy theirs.

If it’s just the jaunty angle, a set of these will sort it [Edit: oops, see below ↓ for the correct bit]

Nah, they need to be round stays like these:

One of the salsa rack seat clamps might give you a better upper mounting point if bending a set of longer stays isn't feasible.

I have a Brooks branded Ortlieb rear pannier I use for light touring, but realise having everything on one side of the bike isn't healthy for the bike for long distance rides.
Thing is, I like to pack light. Most panniers seem to be fairly chunky - are there any 'slim' pannier bags anyone would recommend for light touring?
-
• #914
you could use two small front panniers instead of one big rear one. Advantage that if you wanted to do "full" touring you can put the two on the front, two large ones on the back.

Just to check, front pannier bags will mount ok on a rear rack?
-
• #916
I can't speak to every single variation of front pannier bag and rack, but they should do yes.
I've known people to also do the reverse, use large bags on a front rack.

I have a used pair of these I’m no longer using, a bit slimmer than Ortliebs but still decent capacity.

anyone recommend me a front rack to fit some ortlieb front rollers. Bike has 26 p2s on it . So not a load of mounts , but has mudguard mounts.
Thanks -

Also need to equip a cx bike with no mounts to Cary some kit . Thinking handlebar bag, frame bag and seatpost bag. All a bit of a trial with the missus to see she likes , so who does inexpensive stuff :)

I picked up a set of old Carradice Overlander rear panniers but the clips seem to be too narrow for Tubus rails. Is there an adapter/converter for this sort of thing? Vaguely remember Carradice selling something like that but can't find it.

Sounds like you need a couple of negative shims

Tres drole, I'm sure - I was thinking I'd seen something horribly overengineered like an extra rail that clipped on or something like that.

Rather than adding another thing, it might be easier just to change the hooks?
Yeah I repaired a hole in my old pannier. Used a rowing boat canvas and glue and never let any water in. Didn't look very neat mind.
