  • Can we see it anyway?

  • Show us please

  • Only took one pic:

  • That looks pretty nice to me! I guess if it's not what you want, it's not what you want though.

  • It looks like a technically well executed paint job but you were right to get rid. Gold has no place on a bike.

  • Quality of workmanship looks good. I really hope you can work it out with your mate.

  • The quality of the finish was never in question just that he’d not ticked the boxes I’d asked him to and had done a lot of things I don’t really like: stripes, mix of matte and glossy with hard edges and a gold, khaki, red, grey color scheme. Any of those elements on their own I could have lived with but they all added up to a paint job that just wasn’t for me.

I flatted it back on Monday so it’s ready for a re-do but my man is on holiday for the whole of February and has a lot to turn around before he goes so chances are it’ll be into March before I get it back...

  • How did he take it when you asked him to re do?

  • Fair play to you. It is such a quality product it needs to be exactly what you want in terms of finish

  • That's quite horrible but to be fair it is "loud and bright"

  • Pretty offended but we’ve made our peace

  • 3rd time’s (hopefully) a charm

  • Man all your projects make for such good readin

  • Any updates??

  • @Skant updates??!

  • I'll just keep bumping this

  • Bump

  • Well…funnily enough I just visited the painter yesterday to apply some pressure as our velodrome is soon to be converted from vaccination center back to cycling facility and I need my track bike!

It’s currently rocking it’s 4th paint job and it’s a hot mess! with some scribbles from the dude on to does prep (also a buddy of mine) on the fork as they really planned to paint it again but I like it how it is! It’s unique, has a story and meaning for me and the big plus: it only needs clear coat then it’s done!

  • Oh the irony

  • Haha 3 years ago already:')
The closed velodrome is a solid reason though

  • Shortly after the last post we got word of our first velodrome session, the painter busted out a spontaneous 5th paint job on this in the space of 24h, I collected at 5pm and had it built up and on the boards by 7 and have been happily riding the track 2/3 times a week ever since :)

I kept just getting wrapped up in the riding and forgetting to take a photo but last night got around to it:

The palette is based on the artwork of Leon Berkowitz:

The painter knows I'm a fan of Berkowitz but this paintjob was a complete surprise for me and I'm stoked on it...exactly what I was originally hoping for: that my friend has artistic freedom and used it to create something unique, fun and totally to my tastes!

The bike rides good too ;)

Tonight is the last track session of the year so I'll be taking the bike back to the workshop afterwards to fettle and take some proper photos.

    To do:

    • trim steerer
    • swap out tyres for some Veloflex records: currently on corsas but the rubber's looking a little old after sitting around so long (plus records should be FAST so I'm excited to try them out)
    • experiment with saddles: I ride a Fizik Antares on all my other bikes, it works for me: super long rides, day in-day out, on/off road - I'm happy but not on the track... I'm curious to try some of the new breed short nose saddles here, if anyone has recommendations/success with them on the track I'd be keen to hear!
  • nice to hear that you enjoy your bike and the paintjob! 5th time seems to be the charm

  • Thanks! Yeah and the painter is super happy with it too :)

  • Looks amazing! Glad to see it finished and getting used:)
