Decathlon or TK Maxx will get you decent stuff for fairly cheap.
Cycling base layers/jacket can do a lot of the rest. Layer up rather than buying one really heavy duty ski jacket. -
Some brilliant prices here, scroll down and there are trousers and jackets under £50.
I've got a westbeach jacket as a spare, that I've had for years. It's really good.

I've fallen into the trap of getting invited on a ski holiday, without knowing how - and without owning any gear that isn't for cycling.
Anyone got any (cheap-ish) gear that they can't be bothered to stick on Ebay or take down the charity shop? 34/36" waist 40/42" chest. Aka a Rapha Large.
