  • Think this has turned out nicely! Paint looks great.

  • Oooh. My 26c were about 90psi which I'm guessing would make the skiddiness worse then?

  • Cheers fella! I'm super pleased with the end result! Really enjoying riding it!

  • Probably doesn't help! The downside of low pressure is pinch flats obviously, are you tubeless or tubes? I've got tubes so in a bit of a dilemma...

  • Tubes in... I think I'll have to do some experimentation with pressure here!

  • Aw feck. Hanger and wheel ok?

  • Hanger and wheel seem to be fine thankfully! Need to find another 7900RD now though :(

  • Horlicks.

  • should be ok, is bendable right?

  • Yeah, a good lbs will have a tool to sort it out. It's a 5 min job. Won't be as strong as it was, but should hold good. Out of interest, how did it happen?

  • Yeah it should be ok. Chain slipped off a worn jockey wheel and bit into the carbon cage and yanked backwards around the cassette.

  • Pretty sure I never posted this again since changing the dropper post. I got a Fox Transfer Factory dropper to replace the slightly too long for me 9point8 Fall Line.

  • Strong thread revival.

It is rather good! Not a Kashima fan, but it works on this for me! Really wouldn't want to get this muddy...

  • Very nice

But have you considered a Jeffsy?

  • Can you believe that's the first time it's had a wash in a looong time, it's usually plastered with mud and grime!

It's an absolute blast to ride but I am getting the itch to build something with a lot less travel and a lot less weight so I'm sort of thinking along the lines of getting a 100-120mm fs with slack geometry from Marino perhaps?

  • It would make an awful lot of sense wouldn't it ;)

I'd actually really like one of the new Izzos but not sure I could stomach buying a new bike at the moment outside of possibly building something with used parts...

  • Capra looks so good.

I had an XL Capra AL1 but when I changed my hardtail to a boost 29er model (hello dave) I got a Marino FS to match a year later.

I got the 150mm frame in XL. Build quality on the frame wasn't the best, Cables guides all over the shop, bearings are really exposed, dropper routing up seatube is a nightmare as the cables comes in perpendicular to the tube so its a pain. My paint was shot from factory. They are super cheap though so you can't have everything its just a shame as a couple of little details and it would be really good. I love the single pivot design for lower maintenance.

After loaning a mates XXLongest 29er geometron 140mm for quite a while it was a definite step up from the Capra. I'm not sure the Marino will be though. Depending where you ride I wouldn't go below 140mm.

  • I'd actually really like one of the new Izzos but not sure I could stomach buying a new bike at the moment

    Agreed, on both points

  • Sorry to hear the Marino didn't turn out to meet expectations, have you gotten it built up and ridden it yet?

I'll be keeping my Capra anyway so I'd be happy to go for shorter travel next time around for a change and a lot of my local trails would be lots of fun on a short travel bike, especially in summer when it's dry. I took a mate out recently on a rental HT and we swapped over for a bit and I had a blast on it so kind of keen to have a FS that's effectively a HT with a little bit of big hit absorption on the back if that makes sense?

Found a Marino Owners Group on FB and another chap has had almost exactly what I'd want built, he copied the geometry of a Kona Hei Hei but extended the reach a little bit and has 120mm front and back...

I think I'd be inclined to slacken the headtube angle a touch more but otherwise quite similar to this.

  • Yeah I have ridden it but the rear shock killed itself so not as much as I would like. The shock was a lightly used one I bought that had been left on a shelf for a couple of years.

I fell a bit of out love with it as the wait was ages as well and went back to the hardtail and I just love the simple life of it but I can appreciate the FS on big days out.

My head angle is around 60degress less with sag (58-59) with a 160mm fork so I need a slackset to take 2 degrees out to get it to around 62. I would definitely steepen that seat angle a bit on the one above. At least 76 but I would go more personally to 78. They ae also a bit of a pain to get front chain guides mounted onto without fouling.

Where are your local trails? The 140mm Geometron did my local stuff amazing well but also really excelled at places like Fort Bill and Golfie.

  • Ooooh you've set my mind off n running. Got a 2018 Capra Pro Race and I'm happy to keep it until it completely breaks but a new look might be cool....hows your paint holding up?

I have no idea about painting anything never mind full carbon.

  • I've barely been mountain biking at all this past while, I think the last day I actually got out was about a year ago at Antur Stiniog when I was passing by on a trip down south for work and I managed to bork my derailleur and haven't fixed it since...

So... I might as well change to 12-speed right? What's good these days? TRP TR12 look appealing... not opposed to some MIC Aliexpress job either if there's something really good?
