  • I’m not a cat person so I can see a clear solution to your current sleeping issues.

  • Attempted one of my annual running goals to try and manage a 17something 5k.
I did 18:40 and 18:10 in the past 12 months and thought with a race on a circuit, I might manage it.
Completely overcooked the start. At the first 500m I felt great but also suspiciously quick. To a peak at my watch and saw I was running at a totally unsustainable pace more in line with a 15min 5km. Took my foot of the gas..but from then on it felt like I was drowning.
Hobbled over the line with a 19:34 which is fine & all but i can do that without having to share a course against a bunch of mega fast kids

  • I always get blisters when I run on one little toe. Is this an insole / potentially worn out trainers thing if I'm confident that it isn't my socks? Anything preventative or that I can do to treat it now (got a half next weekend and want to do some more training, but I'm weighing up not doing to let it recoverer) cheers

  • Could you put one of those toe protectors on when you run for the next week?

Have you worn the trainers for a long time without getting blisters? Could be the stitching wearing out in the area of your big toe?

  • I think I am due some new shoes but I think whenever I do more than 15k it happens. Might be in the insoles?

I'll look into toe protectors, anything specific you recommend? Thanks

  • I’ve never used them but was chatting to someone at a race who said they are good if you get blisters during training.

  • Are you sure you trainers are big enough?

I say this as somebody who has basically gone from size 10 to size 11.5 wide in the course of three years due to historically wearing shoes that are too small and then a bit of foot spread as my mileage has ramped up.

  • Can you just put a plaster on the toe?

  • I managed the longest run I ever did last night back from work. I felt good after 5 k my normal stop time so just kept going. I managed. 8k. Quite chuffed.

Is there a forum approved head torch that's not too expensive.?

  • Personally gave up on head torches and just hand hold my bontrager bike light.

Turns out I turn my head many directions when running and although my eyes are looking at the path my heads looking in the bushes.

Joys of only running in winter to save bike cleaning.

  • Alpkit Gamma or Quark.

I got a Petzl Bindi recently to carry as a backup, first impressions are it is good.

As it is so tiny it has a short battery life, defo one for shorter excursions if using as a main torch.

  • Thanks @rhb. Will have a check. @Panka I did wonder about head wobble and just looking else where but I guess I just have to try. Last night I nearly fell as missed a dip in the track I was running in.

@rhb doesn't it feel a bit lop sided if your holding one arm steady with a torch???

  • Everyone’s different and my issue is certainly a form issue.

Benefit of getting a good head torch, even if you don’t like it you can just carry that…

  • Biolite are worth checking out as well, they are pretty pricy but are meant to be brilliant.

  • Boom - 5km to 8km is a big jump. Ultra next ;-)

  • The current pair were my first proper fitted out pair and they are 12 whereas I'm usually a 10.5

  • I've heard that Vaseline on your toes might help

  • This ^ for blisters on toes. Helped me no end playing 5 aside.

  • Steady on. 10k first 😁

  • When I did a 40km run at midday in August, I made probably the only sensible decision of the day and covered my entire body in vaseline. It absolutely helped.

  • doesn't it feel a bit lop sided if your holding one arm steady with a torch???

By carry I meant in bag as spare / emergency. I've carried torches in hand before though, it's most useful when foggy. It does affect gait a small amount but we're adaptable creatures.

  • I put some under my left arm where tshirts seem to chafe, on my nipples, my right inner thigh and sometimes somewhere more private if I'm wearing tight shorts.

There are no secrets on the LFGSS running thread!

  • "Remind me to Vaz my toes on Sunday..." - conversation only half an hour ago. Toes, nips, under-arm, shorts lining. For my first marathon I went with surgical tape on the nips but one fell off... Lucozade Sport spillage at 24 miles = ouch!

  • Leukotape P! Your nipple will come off before the tape does!
