Thanks for the tip, we've done a few trips to the area for work before and usually just bring road bikes and cycle around New Forest including some gravel-esque forays so definitely keen to factor in some gnar this time!

Queen Elizabeth Country Park is another option and fits the description of not being too mad.
No idea on rental though. Loads of options in the New Forest, but won't be setup for getting rad.

No bike hire suggestions sorry, but check of Puddletown - straight down A31 from New Forest. QECP isn't that far either. Again, not sure on hire.
If you end up at Windhill, don't be afraid to go into the woods surrounding. Lot's of trails to the north of Centre Parcs and then go down to Shearwater. Can easily cover 20+ miles in there.

Not particularly gnar but much more local, Woods Cyclery rent out bikes and can advise on trails.
Rogate is probably within 2hr but not sure about rentals...
