Sitting here, slightly in shock that my 12 speed set up puts me at the cutting edge. So many years of retrogrouchery, gone!

2x6 doesn't count

anyone got any recommendations for a decent tensioner that could handle some abuse?
Until recently I ran my mini-dh bike single speed.
There is a German brand SB-One. I use their chain tensioner. The rrp is really expensive for what it is though but I lucked out and got one on ebay for £35https://www.sbonebikeparts.com/sb-one-chain-tensioner/chain-tensioner-boner.html
It's the only tensioner that can be used for trail riding really.

At that price you’d be as well to just run a used rear mech with a clutch.

yeah, that looks great but I won't be paying that much! Trying to find it cheaper has unearthed this https://reverse-components.com/en/products/colab-chain-tensioner which looks ideal, if only anyone had anything in stock.

absolutley.
Or even an SS cage road mech run tight

yeah some people run Zingle speed... a diy approach with a Zee mech
With a punch and some patience its not too hard -

Good shout! I'd forgot about that one. SB-One actually make that for Reverse-Components

Can anyone recommend an insurer who will provide short term travel insurance that covers lift assisted DH mtbing overseas? I'm struggling a bit. Thanks.

Dogtag or eta would be my thoughts. But covid messed stuff up. Dammit might have better idea
-
• #21664
Thanks for the suggestions. ETA don't seem to offer travel insurance. Dogtag look just the ticket, except that their website says that due to covid they're not taking on new policies at the moment. I've asked Neil already actually as I thought he might be in the know, but not heard from him yet.

If you go to the ultracycling thread and and those idiots who insured them for badlands you might get another option.

• #21667
Haha.
All sorted for insurance now thanks.
And the upside to all this is I think I've found my new fave lfgss thread

Considering the distances you regularly ride, I'm amazed you're not posting on there already :-)

Thanks. Did look at them earlier today, but they were eye wateringly expensive. Sorted now thankfully.

Chaps and Chapettes,
Have an upcoming work trip to New Forest and was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere to shred the gnar nearby for an afternoon's diversion over the weekend?
Criteria:
- Must have rental as one of my colleagues doesn't own his own bike (has good bike handling skills though from years of motocross and lots of road riding)...
- Ideally nothing that's going to scare the living shit out of aforementioned colleague either although he's ridden Dunkeld on a previous trip and made it out the other side alive...
I had been looking at Tidworth Freeride and Wind Hill, both of which look like a lot of fun but don't seem to do rental (I'll call to confirm)... Any other suggestions within a two hour drive say?

Not particularly gnar but much more local, Woods Cyclery rent out bikes and can advise on trails.
Rogate is probably within 2hr but not sure about rentals...

Thanks for the tip, we've done a few trips to the area for work before and usually just bring road bikes and cycle around New Forest including some gravel-esque forays so definitely keen to factor in some gnar this time!

Queen Elizabeth Country Park is another option and fits the description of not being too mad.
No idea on rental though. Loads of options in the New Forest, but won't be setup for getting rad.
That'll be where I'm going wrong then
