Also funk legend last week, RIP Pee Wee Ellis

I don’t know whether he performed or was involved in this track, James Brown bounced around a lot of different bands in his time, but Pee Wee Ellis definitely co-created some of the best sounds of the funk era. One of my faves here;

Chris Dench of Goodsoul Promotions. Along with his brother Mike, and until 3 years ago their mother Norma, they put on dozens of gigs mostly but not exclusively in the London area, mostly indie and psych rock stuff, in venues like the Water Rats, Sebright Arms and the Victoria. Chris and Mike were at just about every gig I’ve been to over the last 10 years or so, and were as passionate about music as anyone I’ve ever met.
Chris was diagnosed with terminal cancer just over two weeks ago, and passed away at home on Sunday. He’ll be missed hugely in London and beyond, not least by me and many of my friends. RIP fella, you did good.

Shocking story. Her husband is missing and being treated as a suspect but I suppose he could have been kidnapped?
