Just to add my own two penn'orth to this discussion. We live on less than 18 grand a year and have two young kids. I'm a potter and my wife is a writer. I set up my business months before covid hit so it's been a pretty torrid time. We're trying to buy a small house to get away from the insecurity and stress we've had to put up with from two terrible landlords over the past 5 years. Both situations have been shockingly bad, and both have been unavoidable due to being the only places we could afford. Unfortunately we keep being priced out of buying even the worst places in the area in which we live. Yes I appreciate that I have chosen a career in which I won't get much money and I accept that, but I work my ass off to develop my business and give our kids a life and I don't really see why we should have to put up with the insecurity of bad renting and the impossibility of housing currently. I guess we all have our struggles in life, whatever our income.
