  • Really? Looks like someone left some items resting against the bike (helmet, umbrella, food it looks like) and, if the bike was hot, they probably set on fire.

What makes you think it was on purpose?

  • It looks like almost exactly that , but I’m not sure you would leave them on your bike , there were bags of oranges and rubbish that looked like an emptied bin .
To me it looked like someone had left their helmet secured to the bike and someone had filled it with trash and old newspapers and an umbrella and set it alight .Newspapers on the scooter too .
Bizarre, thé 3 Wheeler next to the triumph was badly burned , the scooter next to it on the other side wasn’t too bad , but one further away had a totally melted screen .

  • A lot of oranges and surgical gloves .
    Very odd

  • Project Hawk update! My old man very kindly agreed to pull apart an old 350 YPVS engine that's sat in his garage for the last 20 odd years. It originally came out of a drag bike and was extensively modified. So much so, that we never actually got it running....

It's a proper piece of kit! Turns out that not only does it have the TZ350 dry clutch conversion, but seemingly a TZ350 gearbox too. Bit weird as the TZ350 transmission is very different and not supposed to fit in the cases. Great if it does, as tuned two strokes are much nicer with a CR box to keep them on the boil and the Nova ones they make for the RDs cost 2.5k UK!

Anyway, at some point he's going to box up the cases, box and clutch and ship them over for me. After that, I'll be able to make a start on making it fit into the Hawk.

  • The; interesting world.

  • (Just test rode the Triumph Explorer, fucking hell my tractor is slow by comparison.
1st + 2nd are zippy but it comes into its own in the mid range.
    Stuck a deposit down.
Friday I'll have my grubby little mitts on a 1200cc mile muncher.

(Caveat, I've ridden a 125, learner 600, and a 700 v twin TransAlp, so my history isn't with big, fast bikes and I am sure it is slow compared to a sportsbike, but 135 bhp Vs 55 is a leap)

  • Awesome, 135bhp is really all you'd ever need on the road. Look forward to Friday's update.

Been enjoying this series recently in between spannering on the SRAD.

  • Nearly launched it in to oncoming traffic on the rest ride!
Didn't realise how much neck ringing I do on my bike to get it flying, almost did the same, but with nearly triple the horses
Could have been an expensive 30 seconds.

Can't wait to pick it up and drive 50mph down the A127...

  • Nice!! Enjoy your new speed machine!!

On the subject of neck-wringing, I had a crack at replacing the friction plates in the XJ600N this afternoon.

Absolute piece of piss. Took longer to scrape off the old gasket than to do all the rest of the work combined.

Test ride in rush hour traffic was pointless. Couldn’t get many opportunities to pin it through the gears and see if the slipping at high aggressive revs was gone. Seems to be though.

Amazing how much different it pulled in first without throttle. Slipped the clutch and it started to crawl forward fast. Felt much more positive all around.

  • Do love the XJ's tempted to get one.

  • Noice. I test rode one before getting the tiger and it was a beast. Torque was infectious. Just couldn’t justify the extra weight.

  • On the one hand I would be glad to have something more powerful. On the other? It’s just so easy to ride.

They aren’t very expensive, and have not increased in value like the Bandits have. That said I don’t regret the money I’ve spent on mine, I’m getting maximum performance and maximum use from it.

Probably by the spring-time I’ll get it advertised for sale, once I have finished upgrading everything possible and throttled it within an inch of its life.

  • How tall are you if you don't mind me asking?

Standover is always something I worry about.

  • I like to say I’m 6ft. Without shoes I’m fractions of an inch shorter than the round number.

On road bikes I’m 56-58cm frames. I was ‘comfortable’ riding a 58cm for years but 56cm was better. 57cm best.

I can easily get a leg over the DR350SE in adv boots, so I am probably slightly above average height when it comes to these things.

Mine is a ‘96 XJ, not sure if they got taller by the 00’s. It in fact felt a little cramped and small (after time on a DR) so I opened the seat and added some dense foam sheets to bulk and stiffen the seat up.

Probably gained an inch or two realistically, and stiffened it considerably while riding. Before that it very much felt like sitting ‘in’ the bike, as was described to me by the previous owner.

Finally, when stopping and seated I have a big bend in my legs, and if I stand then there is a big gap between me and the seat. It’s low, not the lowest, but it’s low.

If you’re in the Swindon area any time let me know, you can swing a leg over it.

  • New toy.
Blast from Southend to Basildon along the coast, seems happy in any gear.
Accidentally pulled away in 3rd doing 11mph and it didn't bog down really.

Can't find a fuel station to go out and give it a hoon, so it'll be parked for a week until garages stop being closed/ full of goons.

  • Very nice

  • Those panniers tho…

  • Does it get any better than new bike day? Okay... New bike day when you can actually get petrol. Looks great.

  • Suitcases are off and in the back of the garage!

  • just won this from Copart auctions - not sure the extent if the damage till it arrives 2019 street triple R

therefore I'll be selling the 2008 street triple I've recently bought, new radiator/rear shock/new battery/rear bearings & linkages replaced,re greased, newish tyres and chain and sprocket. 46k but mechanically great, frame a bit tatty in places but only looking at £2200 for it

  • that looks fantastic, I've previously owned a r1200gs but would probably get one of these instead

  • Sweet!

  • Still at the coal face of researching off road bikes. Does anyone know if a Husky FE 501 would be marginally better for 'road work' as opposed to a Husky FE 450?

I understand the continuum from 2 stroke 250 motocross bike to BMW 1250 GS, but I've read so many conflicting views. I think the 501 would make a slightly better dual sport (with mods) as it has more torque but also hear people say it's vibey. Think I'm circling around KTM 690/ Husky 701 teritory within the continuum, but as 501 is numerically closer to these it's got to be better on the road than a 450, right?
