Dynamo hubs

  • Looks like the adapter kit only changes between 15 to 12 mm diameter or qr, doesn't change the width from 100 to boost 110. So you'd still need the problem solvers booster or similar, there's a few brands selling those.

You could get any 15x100 hub and use universal adapters to make it 15x110 or 12x100 or 9mm qr, if you can live with the adapters.

  • Thanks Samuli. I think I will just order a normal boost hub and hope that any future or additional bike will also be boost.

  • Why the fuck didn’t we all go back to bolt on hubs?, that’s what I want to know.

  • Sorry for the spam, but if any interest have a lovely sp pv-8 hub on DT Swiss rim and spokes, done less than 300km at a bargain price.

  • Does a Dynamo front hub 15x110 Center-lock disc 28 holes exist?

According to my lurking investigation no ;(

    Yours?

    thanks

  • Centerlock.. how it works the adapter?

  • Given the rotors will need replacing at some point anyway, can you not just use 6 bolt ones?

  • Nothing wrong with that but if one CL exists...

  • 6 bolt only on those. Centerlock would be a treat.

  • Long shot but would anyone like a to swap (my) 36h QR 6bolt SP dynamo hub in silver - lightly used, for a 32h?

  • Anyone here find play developing in their Son dynamo? I've got a Sondelux on my cycletruck with about 19,000-20,000km on it and it's got pretty noticeable play, just wondering what kind of mileage people are getting out of them.

  • 50,000km service interval suggestion but it’s dependant on use, there isn’t a set pricing as such but 99% of the time £65 to return to factory, new bearings and generator overhaul, including shipping back to customer

If it’s under warranty then obv no cost

Needs to be a hub alone or pay a £20 unbuild/rebuild fee if you send a wheel.

Just need a returns form, email sales@sjscycles.com

  • Best dynamo solution for a Brompton? I have lights I can borrow from other bikes, but I know that the weird OLN and small diameter mean my experience with touring/commuting wheels is not so relevant...

In addition, does the smaller circumference (and hence higher RPM) mean the lights flicker less at low speed?

  • SP sell a specific narrow hub for bromptons / folders, and yes you can get away with a less high powered dynamo as the hub spins faster at lower speeds

  • SON also sell a specific dynamo hub for bromptons called the XS.

  • After routing, fitting spade ends etc etc to run Exposure Revo & Sinewave Revolution, I have decided I'd rather keep the Revolution permanently in a top tube bag. I can't route it through the cable port of this bag without taking everything apart again...unless I chop the cable, and fit spade connectors fairly close to the Revolution box. In theory this would be helpful for cleaning the bike too, and general disassembly without having to pull the hub-end spade connectors off and remove the wiring from the fork.

Is there anything I'm missing in a counter argument? How badly can I fuck it up?

  • I quite like 2mm banana plugs covered in heatshrink (one piece on each half, not one piece over the whole lot) for semi-permanent but removable connections.

  • I am also looking for centre lock, 15mm thru axle, though I’m happy with 32 or 36h.
Was googling around, and can see some 12mm centre lock thru axle but not any 15mm’s.
I’m assuming an adaptor to from 12mm to 15mm isn’t going to be a ball ache to fit or use?

  • Not sure as I had to buy 12 and re built the wheel ;(

  • had to google, but those look like a better way to go than spade connectors! Also dyna snap, as per user timmah! recco, I'd seen mentioned before on here somewhere so that was in the back of my mind.

I'd have this sorted today if Maplins was still a thing :(

  • Shimano XT have one, And I think SON do as well.

Bear in mind a reducer from 15mm to 12mm is likely, but expanding 12 to 15 could be tricky…

  • I’ve found one on sjs.
Shimano, so not as sexy as son or sp, but it’ll get the job done at half the price..

  • Can you get a Lego block style fitting for Son hubs instead of the coaxial adaptor thing? I don't see what the point of the coax connector is and it means I can't use the internal routing in my fork (male connector is too fat to fit through)
