  • Does anyone have any experience or advice riding or renting a bike at Drumlanrig Castle? I have a few days in the area and was thinking of having some off-road fun. I could also possibly try one of the 7 stanes but Drumlanrig is by far the closest. I don’t own an mtb so would need to hire but I’m a bit nervous about quality… the only other time I’ve hired an mtb it was pretty terrible. I’m a complete novice at mtb so I’m definitely not thinking of going full red bull rampage or x games, but I do race a bit of cross so I think I’d enjoy something more equivalent to xc type riding.

  • Possibly, I’ve got a set of Kreitler made Planet X rollers with regular and resistance drums that I’ve been meaning to clear out.

Fairly certain these would fit, depends on your bike I guess

  • No experience of that area I'm afraid - but the rental bikes at Glentress look decent. They have e-MTBs as well. You'd probably enjoy the red loop there, it's cross country terrain, some slightly steep bits but nothing too hairy.
Glentress area will be a bit busy this week though, EWS race happening there.

  • does anyone actually use Microshift advent x ? Is it any good? Internet says its fine.

    I want t0 downgrade from 12 speed to 11 or 10.

  • I want t0 downgrade from 12 speed to 11 or 10

Box 9spd is meant to be quite good

  • Microshift advent x

It's seemed OK when on new bikes, when we had one in with a broken derailleur we swapped it to Shimano because we couldn't get a new derailleur at the time and it's not compatible like their other stuff. I wouldn't choose it but would ride it until it broke if it came on something I didn't care too much about. Downgrading from something better seems daft.

  • the cassette price scared me and i have an 11 speed cassette on the turbo

  • If you're only using ERG mode on your smart trainer, you can save on ( indoor ) cassettes by using a singlespeed cog and spacer kit

  • Keep on top of your chain wear by changing it a lot and not riding your bike.

  • ha! basically since I bought the bike I have changed the chain twice (around 800 miles so far in filthy conditions mostly) and the XT cassette might be coming to end of its life. Mainly because I have 11 on all bikes and can have same chains/quicklinks etc I wonder if I can sell the XT 1x12 setup and go down to 11.

good point @BareNecessities I only bang ERG.

  • Is it not microspline?

  • To save a few quid on a cassette, you want to buy a whole new groupset??

  • yeah I have a spare 11sp freehub lying around, its DT

  • that plus some hoser on pinkbike will buy the mech and shifter

I will come out of it with #NetProfit

  • The 12 speed stuff works so well too.

  • ok find me a cheap cassette and chain, I know they wont be as cheap as 11/10 sp but £150 is ridic

  • Don't Sunrace make something compatible?

No Hyperglide + but they appear to last well, from what I've seen

  • By the end of the week @amey will be building a whole new bike around one of these

  • Don't get an XT one.

  • 86 quid, not bad

    k I will stick with 12

@BareNecessities explain me the turbo setup like I am 5 year old pls

  • just go 10 speed like the rest of us and enjoy great 35 quid cassettes and 20 quid chains forever
