  • I’ll double up on the Ardbeg Uigeadail recommendation from Cozey and also add that I think Ardbeg Wee Beastie is great value for a 5yo peat bomb. The Campbeltown whiskies are also really interesting, I tend to love peatier whiskies but probably prefer Springbank to Longrow. Haven’t had much Kilkerran yet but the 12 I’ve got is good if you happen to see any of it around

  • I've had a busy couple of days;

  • Are they empty now?

  • Ooh how're the torabhaig and raasay?

  • @withered_preacher - that's still a work in progress!

@jupiz - I'm not well versed in talking about whisky's but I'd say they're both off to decent starts but neither have particularly deep/complex flavors!

Torabhaig was a really nice place to visit, they had obviously put a lot of effort into making the place look like a classic distillery. The whisky itself I'd say has a nice initial flavor but you can tell it's young as that quickly makes way to a more just alcohol flavor - you can see where they're trying to go with it though so by the time they've gotten up to 10yr+ it's going to be good stuff.

Raasay was another nice set-up but more modern looking. The whisky is smoother with more fruit/sweetness and less peat than the Torbhaig.

  • Fair enough, we’ll I look forward to trying them in the future then. Tend to find the fruiter ones like Bimber and Cotswolds have actually been pretty damn good at 3.

  • Hmmm. $65000.

    Might stick to Tescos.

  • Quite a few new interesting looking things on the whiskybroker website.

  • Edradour 10 tonight. Relatively sweet and smooth, but enough complexity to make it interesting. 4/7.

  • Opened Port Charlotte finally - very pleased indeed, might be the new favourite.

  • 17 year old is going to be difficult isn't it?
    Doesn't it go
    5,8,10,12,15,18,20,25.

  • There are a few on Masters of Malt, but specific distilleries do not have a regular age statement of 17, in my experience

Edit: Glenlivet have one, since the distillery doesn't have tours

  • Are you talking about whiskies in general or a particular distillery? There are no set rules on ages there are plenty of 17 year old bottlings about.

  • I'm after something distilled 2004, aged 17 years.

  • Yamazaki 17 - Blended Japanese whisky but very tasty. Sadly very, very hard to find and moneygun.gif these days.

I cannot think of another 17 off the top of my head. An 18 will be much easier to find if you are willing to be a bit flexible on the date thing.

    edit: I stand corrected

  • Yeah the Tobermory is er, on the list...

  • a good evening was had on Friday talking about cycling with Magnus Backstedt, Brian Smith, David Brodie from Bunnahabhain distillery and a guy (I forget his name) from Masters of Malt as well as many others.

Oh, and a bottle of Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair. Very nice, one of my favourites. I'm somewhere on the group shot

  • That does make the search a bit narrower, If you've got some preferred distilleries in mind you'd be better off contacting them directly as they might have distillery bottlings from that year.

Craigellachie have 17 in their standard offerings.

  • That's a great idea. I've found some stuff that'll pass the test of "distilled, bottled, and withing budget"

  • Budget being less than £100

  • Is the 2004 or the 17 years aging more important? You might be able to find a vintage that was distilled in 2004 but not aged for 17 years or vice versa?

  • "everything louder than everything else"

(They're both important but I've got some wiggle room if I need)

I'm going in on the Tobermory for christmas.

  • Didn't Hibiki have a 17 too?
