I hope Ribble isn't planning in following the 'stack it high, sell it cheap' model...
That’s always been the case, Trek managed it well (bigger trade margin for shop).

Trek are actually going on a fairly aggressive expansion plan over the next few years, slowly removing the larger wholesale accounts but maintaining relationships with the smaller independent stockists

I'll say the opposite...

Seeing their TrustPilot review, I doubt you’d get anything soon.

In a miraculous twist I went to a local ‘dealer’ who submitted my claim yesterday morning. By lunch I had confirmation of a warranty replacement rear triangle that’ll be shipped Monday.
Now imagine if that’d happened 4 weeks ago when I contacted Evans with all of the details…

Evans don’t have mechanic anymore (as far as I know), they’re completely downsized to the bare minimum.
We have a chap who got a fork replaced under warranty from Evans, they didn’t fit the crown race on and the bike almost got damaged riding with the fork pressing against the headtube.
Easily sorted and cost a smite over £60, but it’s such a rookie mistake, unless you’re not a mechanic.

Had a frame in the Wimbledon branch for 3 weeks waiting for a mechanic to remember to look at it. Not only did they not have a mechanic in but they were also unable to order anything in. Bike shop that was unable to source any 1 1/8 headsets.
Horrendous customer service to boot. Will not be using them for anything but buying something off the shelf.

Popped into Evans on London Bridge earlier and asked if the sold puncture repair kits (as I need to get ready for winter).
The guy at the counter looked at me as though I'd asked him to give me a blow-job. Apparently, that sort of 'niche' stuff (puncture outfits, not blow-jobs) is only available on-line.
To be fair, I then went to Cycles UK on Creek Road and got precisely the same reaction.
I appreciate I am older than most people, but is a puncture repair kit that esoteric?

Essential bit of kit imo

Not if you plan on riding any sort of distances in autumn/winter and don't want to carry 2 or 3 spare tubes with you at all times...
-

I suspect that the inner tube is increasingly becoming something you only carry incase your tubeless system goes tits up.
With tubeless tyres costing £60,70 or 80 each and sealant that could be £30 or 40+ for a half decent size bottle, the humble inner tube is probably such a low cost part of the system that they are seen as disposable.

Seems to me to be crazy that I might have to get such an essential and cheap item delivered, because it is no longer possible to walk into a shop and buy one.
Like we've passed some kind of tipping point.

I no longer go to Evans London bridge or Cycles UK, can't be bothered. Haven't had the best experience there. For small things I go straight to Decathlon...

I've had great success finding kits in little local shops, Costcutter and similar places.in the little essentials rack with mini sewing kits, birthday candles and whatever else.

The other factor is the quick fix patch repair are far more common than a dedicated puncture repair kits.
I can’t remember ever selling them, maybe once or thrice a year?

I'm sure even poundland sell repair kits, if the branch is decent sized. Whether they are any good or not I don't know.

I got caught short with a puncture in New Addington the other day... two corner shops looked at me like I was mad, Poundland said they used to have them but not at the moment, finally a family-run hardware store came up with the goods. judging by the price sticker it had been on the rack for a decade, but it got me home...

I thought big cities had inner tube dispensers nowadays.

These days if kids get a puncture they just throw the bike away and buy a new one from Halfords. Then post about it on tiktok.
-
• #1974
I've had a fair amount of those small shops claim they don't have a kit but I still find a dusty one on the rack.

Probably worth getting it delivered so you can get a good kit.
Rema TipTop would be my choice.
They are a good thing to use to make up an order to the free postage threshold.
