  • -A brief Family-rated recount of how couple met, avoid exes unless it’s impossible. Can specify whether it was love at 1st sight or took time to mature, characteristics that drew groom to bride, and moment he decided he wanted to marry her.

    For someone who doesn't like public speaking I'd leave this out. Recounting that sort of thing in an interesting, brief and clear way is not always that easy.

    Otherwise that's an excellent run down.

    Worth saying that it's the most charitable audience a speaker can ever ask for, so even if a joke is shit people will laugh.

  • I got married overseas, there was not many people in attendance, and I am not a fan of tradition for traditions sake, so I didn't do a speech on the day.

    A few months later we had a "wedding" party in the UK, at which point I also didn't make a speech.

    I didn't have a best man, so none of that shit either.

    My advice, don't feel pressured into making a speech.

    If i was to write one now it would be:
    "Hello, some of you might know me already, but incase not, I am DethBeard.
    Thanks for coming"

  • This. If you Google it there is a very obvious and set formula, most of which is here. Only thing I added was to try to trash the credibility of the best man before they trash you.

    Best man speech is the one I hate writing.

  • It seems many don't. One cited the cost of labour replacing loose ball bearings compared to the value of a typical wheel with them. I can see their point. Kind of sucky throw away economy though.

  • Tubular users: when fitting new tub to previously used wheel, do you start again by cleaning off the glue residue on the rim? Or do you leave it be and paint on a couple of new layers of glue?

  • That's a very broad question and the answer for any specific meaning that I can imagine is "don't".

  • Depends on how old the glue is, what sort of state it's in etc. It can be a fucker to get off sometimes too, so depends on how much time and motivation you have to remove it.

    I've not used it myself, although I'm a big fan of their tub tape, but this stuff is meant to be very effective:

  • I generally pick off any big lumps then just whack a fresh layer of glue over the old stuff.

  • I've used that stuff, made a shit job a bit less shit.

  • I remember, in the dim and distant, using Nitromors. There was a big can of the stuff to hand, so I used it. Even allowing that it's less dangerous now than formerly, I don't think I would now!

  • The old glue layer looks clean and even. Just new glue on top, I think.

    The dude that owned these wheels before me (not on here) alluded to racing in Belgium. Certainly there was no gap in the glue opposite the valve, suggesting that a wheel-swap would be the remedy for a puncture. No such luxury on the Surrey bank towpath!

  • FWIW I had great success running tubs with sealant in, commuting ~10 miles each way every day into central London.

    I’ve only ever had to change a tub by the side of the road when out on a proper ride- twice in the Kent lanes and once by a correctional facility (big signs saying “do NOT pick up hitchhikers” all over the place) in Colorado
