  • Always thought it was a shame they closed store #1, due to it not turning a profit

  • Irony.

  • Finally, after about…….23 years, I painted Arbaal

  • So this weekend I'm entering the London Grand Tournament for 40k. Totally expecting to lose every match. I'll put up a picture when I've finished painting everything in time.

  • Are you! Where they having it this year and hows the numbers for the event? Very much not a tournament person, but if they are happening then its only a good thing. I've heard mixed about the event, but sure it'll be fun.

Planning to have my first game of 40K in about............ten years........in a fortnight or so. One tank left for my Iron Warriors to be 100% done. Next game for me is Warmaster next Mon, another one I've not tried before.

  • It's in the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Edmonton, looks like a massive space. I've heard negative things about a previous one they ran but it looks like they've tried to address those issues with the food/drink and having a bigger venue. It'll be my first tournament and I'll have about 7 games of 40k under my belt so jumping right in the deep end. I like having something to aim for anyway.
If you want to get in any games a few friends and I play at Bad Moon Cafe every other week.

  • I may take you up on the Bad Moon offer! I tend to prefer more scenario led narrative games, over the "line up and go" type.

Memory says that the problems with the previous tournament they held was due to a lack of terrain for the number of tables they had, so it was unpainted slabs of poly put down and little else. Playable but rather crappy looking. But then - if its a huge number of tables, then somethings go to be produced and its not feasible for places outside of Warhammer World to accommodate at that scale.

Never been their club either - Covent Garden, I think?

  • I'm not too bothered if it's all painted or not but they've produced maps for each mission so it should be all sorted because it needs to match that.
There's the London Wargaming Guild that do some meets in Covent Garden, I actually went yesterday evening, but I think they're separate from the Grand Tournament people.

  • There's the London Wargaming Guild that do some meets in Covent Garden, I actually went yesterday evening,

Whats it like in there? Plenty each week? Is it an open play sort of play or more tournament focus? I'd like to visit HATE at some point, but they are bit too far out from my usual locations

  • It's very ad-hoc so can be whatever, you just post in the meetup or whatsapp group to ask if anyone wants a game. Can be less competitive or whatever and there's people playing pretty much every board or table top game, I saw some people come along just to chat while building models.

  • Nice unit.

Is that a land raider in the middle?

  • It is a land raider, yes. Three rhinos, a LR, a vindicator and a predator

  • So good. My pals used to hate my vindicator as a kid.

  • Has @buttrockanthem seen this thread?

  • My old one was hit or miss with my Wolves. It either wiped out a unit or got annihilated very quickly. It then got repainted recently and co-opted into chaos

  • I played 2 more games of 40k yesterday against a Chaos Daemons list with 4 big baddies then a whole bunch of cheap troops. Lost both times, killed a lot and did good secondaries but didn't score enough primary points. Got my first match up for the tournament tomorrow and it's going to be rough, I'm playing against an Ork buggy list, at least if I score 0 points my other matches should be easier.

  • What's your army??

  • Sounds awaesome.

Is there any way the public can view these tournaments online?

Like Pokers Stars.... but Games Workshop.
