  • Aside from anything else, having an adults only lounge is a bit weird and Victorian isn't it?

Not really - I want one room in my gaff that my kids and dickhead cats can’t royally fuck up. We don’t need the space for the kids and there’s no good place for a big ass tv in there so it works well as a kind of toy and cat hair free space that I get to use for an average of two minutes a week.

  • Our mates have just finished their place. They've got a 5yo and 7yo. Kids have their own play room and sitting room. Main sitting room is for adults. The kids can go in there, but there are no toys or kids TV allowed.

Seems like luxury to me. But then in an ideal world I'd always chose a separate dining room too - which nowadays is tantamount to wanting an outside toilet. So maybe I'm old fashioned.

Might be naive, but in todays lifestyle it seems like a good way of encouraging your kids to stay on the main living floor rather than spending all their time in their rooms.

  • It strikes me as odd that you'd choose to have children and then not want them around because they'll fuck your stuff up...

Is this a white people thing?

  • PS I'm very protective of my stuff but I chose not to have kids because kids can fuck off, who has the time for the little cunts?

  • Sending your progeny off to boarding school to further the family name?

  • Nah, kids can be amazing.
Extension got a seal of approval from the kids, who were running and rolling around the larger new space.

Though I had to tell off the 5 year old for swinging on the bifold door, the inconciderate little shit…

  • Nah, kids can be amazing.

I'm just joshing!! Yes, they're wonderful, especially when you can give them back... 😉

  • I think having 3 living rooms is maybe the luxury?

‘The children are prohibited from entering the east wing, and shall be granted an audience with their mother and father via prior appointment’

  • I may just delete this thread seeing as its descended into dadsnet golf club bar bants.

  • A gentleman requires a parlour for playing bridge, smoking his pipe, and doinking the help.

  • Back to kitchens :-)
Where's a good place to get knobs/handles for kitchen cabinets?
We're thinking either brass or black

  • I'd like a room that I could sit in in the evenings without having to tidy up the day's destruction first.

  • if you're spraying the money gun

  • I'm having a crisis of confidence about tile choices... I'd assumed we'd get subway tiles, as ubiquitous as they may be, because much like everybody else I really like them... But the more I think about it the less I think they'll work with a contemporary loo, basin, shower, tapware and other accessories... Hmm... Thoughts?

We're not going full Dezeen, it'll just be a nice, not flashy, modern wet room...

  • I think someone from Swarf might be on here. There is also a prototype sale at the moment which knocks some money off

  • We are knee deep in a live-in renovation with a 2.5 year old. Doing it room by room. Hasn't been too bad (except when we had to decamp from the living room and live out of the dining room which is still storing a lot of stuff. Living off one armchair and one garden chair with a toddler during lockdown was unpleasant - but as said, a very 1st world problem to have) as she sleeps in with us anyway (double+single mattresses on the floor). Her room is this close to being done, then we can shift a load of her crap in there. Living room is nearly done too. Her room and the living room will have carpet before a lot of other stuff is done. The hall, stairs and landing are currently just the bare, manky floor boards so to try and prevent walking said mank into the newly carpeted rooms, I'm thinking of temporarily stapling some kind of runner/carpet to the bare areas that will be replaced as an when we do those bits. Anyone got any good recommendations?

  • As long as they don't have bevelled edges you are fine.

  • Any floor is going to need a degree of maintenance @Tenderloin. Dinesen is used in a number of restaurants/shops/galleries so I wouldn’t be overly concerned on a general wear and tear front, but you will need to keep on top of cleaning with a floor soap which they will happily sell to you for £30ish a tub. White oiled floors inevitably look grubbier than a darker finish quicker, but it will have that sweet aesthetic you are after so swings and roundabouts.

What I will say is that Dinensen is eyewatering expensive, and even more so on retrofit projects where existing substrate levels (floors/stairs) are a little off. I worked on a project in 2019(ish) where Dinesen ash with a white oil finish was specified. 40sq.m in total including overcladding a new staircase came in at about £345sq.m supply and install, and I believe the supply cost of their ash flooring has gone up since.

Dinensen douglas fir is only available as a solidwood which is also pretty chunky at about 30mm which will also need considering at threshold points (junctions with other floors), and with any existing skirting boards/doors you are planning on keeping.

Clearly, it looks amazing but buyer beware and all that. Ted Todd do an engineered douglas fir which will help with the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs above. Will need a white oil soap maintenance as the 1st.

  • Yeah, I'll have to have a deeper dive into it, don't feel that prepared TBH... Slack on my part...

  • they look nicer stacked vertically imo

  • Considering you don't live in The London you are often quite correct.

Yeah @>>>>>> DO NOT GET BEVELLED, so provincial and non authentic.
