  • Anyone have expierence with the cheaper "fancy" spoke tension meters off alie?

  • Looking to build some wheels for new audax type build. Anyone know of (or have) carbon disc rims in 32hole drilling that are readily available?

  • Any 650b 28h carbon rim recommendations?
Thinking of replacing the rims on the Slate.

  • Any 650b 28h carbon rim recommendations?

    LB pro group buy? https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/185341/?offset=9575

  • I’d be up for it, just need to know exactly what I need.

  • I have a pair of old Campag Zondas that have dead rims. Can I reuse the hubs with another rim/spokes? The wheels have an unusual lacing pattern with the official rims.

Otherwise I expect replacement Zonda rims are nearly the same price as a whole new wheelset?

  • yes, should be possible to rebuild the hubs to another rim. are they straightpull or traditional j-bend spokes and is it this freaky G3 lacing ? and replacement rims shouldn't be the same price as a whole wheelset but what do I know

  • replacement rims shouldn't be the same price as a whole wheelset

But they usually are with Shimano/Campag factory wheels, as is the case with many spare parts. Whole things get big discounts, parts don't.

Re-rimming factory wheels is nearly always more trouble than it's worth, and in the case of G3 Campags all the more so as you have to get custom drilled rims

  • yes, the G3 makes it even more difficult to find matching rims, unfortunately.

  • Looking for some help selecting my next hubs for the LB rims I'm getting for my Isen Audax bike. The front will be a SONdelux dyanmo

    28H Centerlock, shimano 11sp freehub.

    My short list is:

    1. Hope RS4
    2. DT Swiss 350
    3. DT Swiss 240exp
    4. White Industries CLD

For me I need the ability to convert the rear to 135 QR for the back of the Isen. Being able to replace DS spokes without a tool (i.e. able to take off the freehub).

Any thoughts / pros / cons?

  • For me I need the ability to convert the rear to 135 QR for the back of the Isen. Being able to replace DS spokes without a tool (i.e. able to take off the freehub).

You can do this on Hopes quite easily, although:

    • I would still remove the cassette before removing the freehub, mostly as you will need access to press in the seal when reinstalling it, so you will need a chain whip and lockring tool.
    • You will likely have to get the rotor off to be able to replace a spoke, so will need that tool as well (same lockring as the cassette?)
  • Anyone got an old Shimano 6700 rear hub knocking around? Need the RH cone/locknut unit off one.

  • You will likely have to get the rotor off to be able to replace a spoke, so will need that tool as well (same lockring as the cassette?)

This is a good point I recalled when I realised after posting. On my rim brake wheels with DT Swiss 240s and Velo Orange hub you can pull off the freehub and cassette in a oner to replace spokes.

I usually carry a fibrax emergency spoke on my longer audax rides and hopefully can manage to lace that behind the disc on the NDS, but being able to get the cassette off might make this a touch easier on the DS.

  • Brand new knight rim failed after build at the valve hole whilst resting over the weekend before its final stress check before collection. Anyone seen or heard of this happening before? It's bulging on one side and split and collapsed inward on the other 😕

  • Can I use Mobil XHP222 (used by Hope) instead of the DT ratchet grease on my DT 240?

  • XHP222

My guess is this is too heavy a grease for the DT 240 ratchet.

  • Can I have some suggestions for track wheels. I’ve only just started building wheels and have built a couple of rears for my polo bike.
I’m 87kg not very powerful or fast, they are for Herne Hill. I’d like black rims with a medium deep profile. Cheap is good.....
    Kinkin xr31ts, ryde dc16, ryde dutch 19?

  • Possibly. Ordered some DT grease (Molykote TP 42) just to be sure

  • Ryde certainly seem to fit the bill for strength and durability

  • woah that s*cks. odid you get the rims through the builder ?

  • No i got them from sigma on clearout but they've been brilliant with warranty. Full refund on the way already. Unlike BH who I'm having to take legal action against after a 6 month dispute.

  • ah cool yes i have seen that knight discount, almost went for the 35mm rim ones... i wouldn't imagine sigma just washing their hands of it
    what's BH ?

  • My issue is with a treadmill but they also make bikes.
I wouldn't buy anything from them they are the worst company I've ever dealt with in any industry
