Anyone got any tips on fixing a spare tube to your frame for long events? I’ve seen people tape or strap them behind the seat tube/ seat stay area? Does this actually work or does the tube get wrecked and people just do it to look enduro?

'Enduro' strap is the way forward if you're sans SWAT or other gaping gear hole in the frame.
I've used one on my bike for a couple of years with 2 x Co2 and a tyre lever wedged in the middle. Would recommend a bit of tape wrapped around the frame to avoid any rubbing. -

I don't do it as I keep tubes in a framebag or saddlebag but if I did I'd like stick it on the seattube behind the seatstays and wrap the tube in a ziplock before taping it to the frame. I'd remove/replace each event too to reduce chance of it being fucked when needed.
Another option that might work depending on how your knees track (not so good for me) is in front of the seatpost, taped around the top tube. Slightly more protected from back wheel muck.

Similar to what @yeahdext said, I use backcountry research mutherload straps (they look to be the same thing as enduro straps):

Edit: the website seems to be down, you can also find them here: https://www.bike-components.de/en/Backcountry-Research/Muetherload-Fastening-Strap-p61361/

I use a £2 velcro strap I got off eBay. These ones^ seem dangerously close to being the mountain bike equivalent of "gravel specific"

I worry that you're looking at 'enduro' things

Don't you just have some actual vintage ones from when you were my age?

Would that special compartment be what is commonly referred to as a pocket?

I have a Louristrap, as mentioned by Amey I have never got round to using if you want it, or anyone else wants it.
Dad bike, innit.
