Any leads on a nice mudguard that is matchy matchy for an Omnium with 20 inch front and 29 inch rear, to 55 mm wide tires?
Am I stuck with shiny bluemels or $$$ Honjos?

I think Velo Orange is the only company that does Mudguard sets with a small front and large rear, however I think it might only be 26" rear.

Thanks! I reccon I might have to buy two full sets. And, VO are out of their 20”s.

Reckon I’ve got space for mudguards here?
There’s about a 10mm gap from the crown to the tyre tread.

There’s about a 10mm gap from the crown to the tyre tread.
The problem is the guard won't have the same radius as the cut-out of the crown. So your 10mm is realistically not the room you actually have. It also doesn't help your wheel is not centered.
The width between the fork legs might also be an issue. Have you measured this? You'd have to find mudguards narrow enough to fit in there. SKS's narrowest 700c mudguards are 35mm for example.
I'm sure you can fit a guard in there, but it's going to be very tight.

Good points, Think it’ll be more trouble that it’s worth. Basically seeing if I’ve got any threadless 1” forks that I can sub into a frame that currently has ample clearance for 35mm + guards.. want disc mount and threadless steerer too though :). Will explore other options.
Thanks @jontea too!
The wheel wasn’t secured in the fork and kept going slightly off centre sozz :s

If anyone is looking for cheap VO hammered 700 guards I have an unused set in the classifieds. PM if interested? Will eBay at weekend if not

Anyone tried painting their own mudguards? I have a set of VO in silver, but black would look a lot better. Selling and repurchasing is a faff, especially as the black ones have been out of stock for a while now. Looked at Cerakote but not had much of a response from the main places in the UK.
Figure a low effort/low expectation option would be a quick pass with wet & dry before lathering on the Hammerite. Any pointers or tips appreciated!

I'll need some mudguards for my Genesis Day One.
Bike will be doing a mixture of on and off road duties through Autumn / Winter so need to be pretty rugged and it would be nice if they were quick to take on and off.
I'm running mini Vs with whatever the biggest tyres I can fit with the guards so might need to hack them a bit too.
What do people recommend?
I know a lot of people seem to hate them but I had nothing but praise for Crud MK3 on a winter trainer previously. Never tried them off road tho.
Could go minimal with a one of these and one of those plastic in the saddle rail jobbies.

Those downtube front mudguards are maybe 5% better than not having any front mudguard at all. But maybe good for your intended purpose. ‘Quick to remove’ kind of eliminates most mudguards that are actually effective though right?

Yes agreed. I'll probs go full bolted guards at some point in winter for solely road riding.
Maybe I should amend 'quick to remove' to 'doesnt rattle around/ fall apart off road'. -

Which mudguards work best with a bike with disc brakes?
I've bought a pair of bleuemels and I'm not sure they're going to work straight out the box.
38 mm tyres max and reasonable price (so sks rather than hand crafted). -

All going to depend on where the bosses are on your frame and (mostly) fork

I have one of these. I don't want to have to bend the stays like in this picture, but you can see the mounting point is in the middle of the fork.
I'll try and get a picture in a bit.

I thought modern bluemels come with loads of spacers so you can just space the stay out from the calliper?
But that only helps for axle eyelets, not mid fork.

What's the latest on guards that have pannier rails? Think there was a really nice one posted on here but I've lost the link.
Oh it was the hebie wingee, but the narrowest is 40mm, I want something to fit over a 25mm tyre
-
• #5094
Yeah. Not sure what will work here. No axle mount at the front, nothing on the rear (there is a brake bridge and another mounting point in the BB cluster).
P clips or similar I guess.

I’ve got some new PDW fenders to fit to my crosscheck. I’m running it fixed for a vbrake up front so I need the brake bridge bolts but I can’t remember what they are m9s or something like that ?

I recall reading somewhere (Tony Oliver's Touring Bikes book maybe) that it is worth coating metal mudguards with underseal for noise reduction. Has anyone experimented with this and, if so, what did you use and how much to apply?
-
• #5097
If you're worried about noise get sks.

I have SKS Chromoplastic 45mm mudguards fitted to my touring bike (and I like them a lot), my question relates to a new BOB Yak trailer I am assembling that has its own mudguard included. While the trailer is still in pieces, I remembered something about the underseal trick with metal mudguards.

I’d say put it together and try it out first.

This thread is epic. I’ve got a rose Xeon frame with no rear brake bridge. I’m a fettler and keen to go full permanent guards over a stop gap solution. If I find a way to fix a full guard to the seattube can I forgo the bridge fixing? How much can I get away with?
@yoshy PM sent
Has anyone fit a set of Raceblade longs over 28mm tyres? The spec says 25mm max. I'm looking for a solution for tight clearances under the brake and bridge for 28mm tyres.
