I've got 2.1s on my '92 Kona Cinder Cone with about the same clearance, it's been ok through muddy stuff. Yeah I occasionally have to clear mud with a stick but doesn't bother me much. If it's Epping through the winter that's #shitfromabutt territory so maybe the crossroads would be better. Not terribly helpful, sorry.
Newbie question. I recently picked up a 1990 Dawes bike with a 531 frame. Am I over worrying about clearance between the tyre and the chainstay here? I'm struggling to find tyres that fit that have decent grip and are pretty puncture proof. Found some Smart Sam Plus 26x2.1 that only just fit, but wondering if I would be safer with some narrower, and a bit more road oriented Crossroads 26x1.95 tyres. The main purpose of it is messing about in Epping Forest rather than road use. Does that look too close for comfort?
