1 gram per kg of bodyweight and 1.2 as you get older is another figure I heard. Then 1.4-1.6 when cutting.
Bodybuilding is full of steroids... Ordinary folk can't absorb it.
In my powerlifting days I did go up to 2 per kg but after a while i swapped some for carbs and just ate a bit more. When cutting 2 per kg just left me with no food choices so I ate a little less protein but ate fats / carbs.
The 0.8 per kg from the government is on the low side though.
Still at the house renovation, but actually want to go back to the gym now. It's not really exercise, lots of walking and standing but no fun like lugging weights :)

Nowhere near as lean as I was, but still got the upper four abs.
That's largely because of two holidays featuring lots of ice creams tbh.
That plate of food (fact fans) looks to be:
~500 calories
- 115g of protein
- Mustard, tasty tasty mustard
- Fibre
- 115g of protein

Pls guis, reverse searing your steaks.

To be fair, given the amount of fat in that steak, its probably me who's doing it wrong.
-
• #3809
There's very close to no fat in the venison steaks.

That cote de boeuf is closer to 25% fat. That's partly why you're ripped and I'm not.

Child + one more on the way, long hours running business, wife long hours too, and a dog to walk
has been a tricky one for my fitness goals. Im not where I want to be in terms of conditioning and strength, and gym attendance. Play 5s, cycle, good fitness from that front but really need to get focused in the gym. Also been having to choose between cycling and gym etc over last year. Gym has lost out a fair bit.
Anyway not a sympathy plea but any suggestions or what has worked for you for making time for the gym? Do I have to suck it up and just commit to 6am sessions? I already go quite late (went at 10pm last night) when I can, but the problem is being tired or working late then sacking it off.
Also any really good weight programmes I can fit in to short timescales? Intention currently is just back to basics. pulls, bench, squats, rows...

Yoghurt! All the yoghurt. Greek with oats and nuts for breakfast and another skyr etc for afternoon snack.

I have some weights in my garage that I use. With 2 kids and lots of competing things to do I doubt very much I could get to a gym.
If you don't have space then some kettle bells and tabata timer to keep everything ticking over. You can fit a lot in to a focused 20 min session.
I did this for a bit and it was better than expected.

5*5 squat isn't fast in my book

Fair point. It does slow up as the weight rises.

Joints - I'm old and my elbows are creaking, any supplements that aren't woo?

Joints - I'm old and my elbows are creaking, any supplements that aren't woo?
They're not suppliments but I've found the magic of joint supports like knee and elbow sleeves.
Anicdotally
In recent years, after years of (what I consider to be quite heavy weights) I found my joints were taking a hammering. Serious discomfort for days, sometimes weeks after a particularly brutal sessions. I've tried glucosamine (I believe) and joint support pills. And maybe so so effect.I've hated the idea of using wraps or sleeves. Now, fucking love them. I can push hard and my elbows, particularly, are fine after big sessions. Which is great. I thought I might have reached that age.
The trick is finding the heavy duty versions. And they need to be tight. But they've made a world of difference to my gym time in this decrepit body.

Having decided to give whey protein a go, I've just seen how much the stuff costs! Amazing for what was a waste product for animal feed until not long ago.
Myprotein and Bulk seem to be some of the cheapest, once you've added their various discount codes and it still works out at about £15 per kilo of actual protein (their whey powder is only 82% protein).
Gram for gram (in terms of protein content), its roughly the same price as chicken breast from Sainsburys. I appreciate that you're paying for the convenience of not having to eat an unfeasibly large amount of meat every day, but for some reason I was expecting the protein cost to be at least a little less.

I mean, you're not hatching eggs, sexing them, slaughtering the males, feeding the females, transporting them, slaughtering the females, butchering them, packaging and then transporting to a shop.
These guys are literally using an ingredient delivered to them in huge tankers as a waste product from industrial cheese factories.
Its not even an expensive process, the whey is just filtered using the same machines that they use for skimmed milk and then spray dried.
I should have invested in sports supplements!

Fish oil works for me. I literally grab a handful a day when things feel bad until they don’t.

As should we have all... The dude who owns myprotein is a billionaire I believe. Where did we go wrong Dan?

Does anyone wear weightlifting shoes?
Not enjoying my vans and considering a pair of Vivo barefoot but should I be looking at a pair of weightlifting (raised heel) shoes instead? I've started squatting just over bodyweight now (90kg) and its starting to get tough.
My local gym is gross so no chance of "take your shoes off" haha.

I wear them. They are great. I bought a reasonably cheap pair from Amazon and am well pleased but they do look slightly odd! I do my weights at home so it doesn’t matter to me. Others should be able to provide more info. I will have a look for a link to mine.
These look like an updated version of mine and they look nicer too.

Reebok Nano X1 GRIT Gym Trainers - Standard daily gym shoes
deadlift shoes - Adidas Powerlift 4 Weightlifting Shoes
Not a bad shout. I've experimented with Huel before and was impressed. I'll give it some thought.
