Note- I can’t for the life of me work out where the apostrophe goes in eras or even if there should be one. Clearly spent too much time listening to music and not enough time on English grammar.

You've put it in the right place as far as the phrase that it occurs in goes, but the grammar is indeed off. I'd re-formulate to:

'... was one of this teenager's favourite songs of the era.'
