I learned to do this from FSC, a woodcraft education org I joined as a kid. We call it ‘cat-lat’, a hiking version of the lat (Latrine) being the longer term large camp solution: basically a trench, turfs preserved to replace later, trowel & pile of earth alongside on top of a tarp, screened off with 5ft guylined poles and hessian, handwashing arrangememts outside.
