When people say ‘No Pun Intended’. Just grates on me man.
-
• #16878
It’s worst when it’s said when a pun was clearly intended, but it s a really shit pun or something that doesn’t even really work as a pun.
-
• #16879
Yeah I find that really punishing too. No pun intended.

I submitted ten puns to a pun competition in the hope that at least one might win. Unfortunately no pun in ten did.

Multi tools
The Daley Thompson of the tool world. Barely adequate at a lot of things.

• #16882
Although he was the fastest GB 100m runner for a while

Sometimes they are functional but rarely optimal
-
• #16884
Fitting a lot of things into one small space, bound together so you usually don't risk losing one piece, is a function in itself.

I know, it's my own fault. I shouldn't be using the multi tool at home.

TV chef's getting there family involved in the programme. Fuck off.

• #16887
The whole fucking Ramsey family, his kids really annoy me.

Multi tools
Just buy a decent one. The Dewalt has got me out of a lot of shit.
We are talking about powered ones?
-
• #16889
Multi tool as in bike tool with lots of different bits, or as in oscillating tool?
The former, while annoying, is obviously entirely useful when needed in anger. The latter is fantastic at a handful of things - but it is definitely not the “replace all the tools in your shed with this one tool” thing it claims to be.
And fuck me the sound they make is not ideal.

Must be a tax dodge. Kid earns salary, has tax free allowance...pays for school fees?

The real question is why was this git allowed to breed?

Typhoons.
I've been stuck in the house for two days.
And (golf thread alert) my cleaner hasn't been able to come. -
• #16894
But tell us more about typhoons.
Do you get sirens and stuff? Do you have to shelter in bunkers or tape windows?
-

Normally, what happens here is that we get text messages from the govt warning us, and schools are closed, the metro shuts down, planes are tied down on the runways, parks closed and trees secured, etc.... and then the typhoon changes course.
But this year we've had two hits! The last one was a "super typhoon" and it was pretty badass, lots of trees down, floods etc. This one was a "strong typhoon" and only grazed us, so nothing exciting - everything is closed and it's very windy and rainy.

I got stuck in a tropical storm on holiday once. It was awful, we had to go ten-pin bowling instead of mini-golf.
-
• #16897
That sounds awful, I'm glad you lived to tell the tale. #pray4jellybaby

I bet you were going spare when that happened.

Wow, that's mad.
It’s funny you say arrival because that’s a film I really loved, but was also torn apart/overthought about by these exact types.
I really don’t mind ambiguity in films, and I can’t help but feel like trying to find answers where they were purposefully omitted is a sign of immaturity just like you said. It kinda relates to my feelings about superhero movies, where the fandom seems to love any reference, no matter how insignificant or asinine, because “getting” the reference sort of simulates being part of something, which seems to lead to the kind of fandom that acts like they have some sort of ownership of the thing they like because they perceive themselves to be involved purely on the basis that they understand the references.
“Give the fans what they want”
Fuck off.
I just feel like it means that the driving factor in making those films is about trying to give people what they say they want, rather than making things that are inherently good - if that makes any sense.
