why so many DNF on EU race?

Circuit race - it takes a lot of motivation to keep riding past the team bus once you've been dropped.

Plus no one has ever sad, I'm glad I finished the Euros.

why start then? esp during covid

I guess it still a race worth winning for national teams, so you have a job to do for your team leaders. But once you have done that job, it doesn't have the same motivation as getting to the velodrome in Roubaix, for example.
