They've certainly improved substantially over the past season or two, but with the significant regulations change I wouldn't be surprised if where teams end up next year is quite different from what their recent progression in performance would suggest.

I feel sorry for the family who feel they have to bare this pain out in public; I hope they take comfort from how many lives MSC touched with his racing. There’s a quote floating around from his son who laments not being able to talk with his dad now that he’s a racer too, which sadly seems to confirm the pessimistic theories about his condition.

I had a friend whose father suffered a head injury in a hit and run walking home from the train station one night. She could speak to him but the injury was so severe that memories were not there or inconsistent and the man he had been, was totally gone. She eventually emigrated at least in part to retain the memory of the man who raised her, not the man her mother was caring for. Can't imagine how that family handled it in honesty.

Supposedly it's some sort of pre-planned change to match Perez according to the pre-race info. You'd have thought given he had a strong chance of pole and a win they'd want to let him go with it rather than throwing points away in the constructors. As you said though, might just be getting him out of the way of Hamilton... except now that's all ballsed up.

Let’s go for a direct comparison to lap 1 then where verstappen push Hamilton off the track at the first chicane. Rather than cause a crash, Hamilton left the track and lost a place he’d gained. Verstappen ever even had the place when he caused that crash.

Would you apportion blame to either? Seemed to me that the way verstappen had positioned his car into the chicane that any attempt by another car to get anywhere near the second apex by was going to result in contact. Genuine question - in that case, according to the letter of the regulations, does that mean the corner is his and every other car has to get out the way?

I'd call it a racing incident. If pushed I'd put more blame on Hamilton for not leaving space on the outside. Verstappen would've known he was putting himself in a position where Hamilton could squeeze him out.

I'd disagree that Verstappen's car placement guaranteed a crash also.

Ultimately I find this "it's my line/corner" idea largely responsible to these sorts of moves and would refer to the Gospel of Alonso when it comes to leaving the space ;)

Hehe yeah well I’m just glad it ended up with a bizarre bit of parking rather than anybody hurt since the halo did it’s job. Max is def being squeezed a bit but just not sure how given another car is ahead and will need to turn in this is going to end well.

Edit: more I rewatch it more it’s just a racing incident as you say.

Racing incident, albeit a bit of a dumb one.

Given the direction max is turning right there, what did he expect was going to happen. He’s off the track and behind Hamilton.

Hamilton should have given him space, sure, but he didn’t. You can’t just crash into someone because they don’t give you space.
