This looks great, a nice light weekend tourer. Loving the tinkering cave too.

Looks like it's gonna make a nice build, definitely a silver headset though!

This looks fast as fuuuuuuuuuck. How is the ride?
What is that stem by the way?
-
• #129105
Thanks. First impressions are positive, still tinkering with it but it’s very responsive. The stem is a Deda super leggero. Merlin have (had?) them on sale for about £80 recently

Thanks pal. I've had a few quite modern disc brakes bikes recently and hankered after a classic looking machine.
The cave is very much a work in progress. Electrics are the next step.

Such a forum favourite for me

yep, still the best

Thanks! I realise I've been spamming a little bit lately, with not a lot of changes. Might start my own thread after all, so I can keep the fox contained. 🦊

Fantastic!

The last page had 7 actual fixed gears or single speeds on it. I thought we'd all grown up a bit? Is the forum having a collective mid life crisis?
-
• #129114
I just bought a sweet fixeh too, took it down the street and almost fell off it after the first meter trying to coast. Then I realized I cannot skid a 46-16 no more without foot retention. I feel old.

Is that a pelago rack with the lowered struts for pannier mounting?
-
• #129116
No sir, although I thought about it.
It's a Velo Orange Campeur front rack. Attaches to the V-brake studs, besides the dropout eyelets. Very convenient.

New old bike day!
The original handle bar set up feels very narrow.
Most likely would be replaced by some wide risers/towniebars with a nice sweep back.Fenders and a set of smoother tires is also on the to do list.

Awesome! I wish I still had my Bear Valley SE, best retro MTB I've ever had.

• #129121

Ive got one of these frame with a stuck seat post with my name on it...just got to get that bad boy out!
Rad frames

I’m an idiot and I got some forks stripped and painted for my frame, the frame being 1.5 inch tapered and the forks being 1 1/4 inch tapered. Doh.
I can only seem to find 1.5 to 1 1/8 inch crown race reducers and not 1.5 to 1 1/4 inch. Do they exist? Anyone know where I can get one from?

• #129123
Change the lower headset cup? Or is it a drop in bearing situation?
-
• #129124
Is this right?

Just be wary of the bearing angle

It has a Hope headset currently. Hope don't seem to make a lower headset cup for a 1.5inch headtube and a 1 1/4 inch steerer.
@MCamb that is the size I would want but like you say, now I'm not sure if it would work with the Hope headset I have. Weird that hope don't seem to make one. They don't seem to cater for 1 1/4 inch at all.
Edit: I looked at Hope tech info, the bearing angle on the 1.5 inch is 45 degrees so I don't think that would work.
Yup and they're fine and good enough for daily use. Cassettes and other parts are not too shabby either.
