Assume that’s premium fuel and London traffic but still. 33p a mile is just daft.
-
• #66878
It’s the effect of getting through London to get anywhere I want to go, and having bikes on the roof almost every drive.
I have no idea what the camper will cost but I imagine slightly less, for the same mileage as the bikes will be inside and the aerodynamics somewhat better.

It’s the effect of having a huge redundancy of power, not sure what other outcome might be expected. Presumably it’s enough fun to be worthwhile and the cost isn’t prohibitive to life’s essentials.

I would expect fuel costs for a Tesla are dwarfed by the cost of buying it, rather different to the E63?
-
• #66881
Adjusting for mileage the E63 is worth more than when I bought it. Leaving mileage out, it’s lost £1,000.

That's helluva result.

I think it’s Covid induced chip shortage combined with lots of cash sloshing around - nothing resembling canny purchasing from me.

It’s pretty insane. Vans with nearly double the mileage of mine are selling for 6-8k more than I paid for mine last year. Inflation is a thing.

When the C Max dies, I definitely want to replace it with something newer (not new, but maybe a couple of years old). Problem is I am totally baffled by the various finance options, haven only ever bought things outright (barring my house). I genuinely get totally number blind when I start seeing the different plans. HP, PCP, lease etc. What is a good way to work out what's best for me?
Car (as stated before) will be a family sized hybrid of some sorts.

Autocar has a good overview

Lots of "the right answer" will depend on your own circumstances.

That's what I feared, I'd rather just someone tell me what to do, or even just what is the least wrong.

Same. For us, we are getting a ulez compliant City car (keeping old smax for family lugging duties). We've decided to go electric, and as that tech is moving fast will lease and see what our needs are in 3/4 years. Seems like that should work best for us.

Cheapest way is to save or borrow £10-£12k and use it to buy a 3 to 4 year old car from Car Giant or similar warehouse. Then run said car until it dies or you have had enough of it.
I've only done that with ICE cars and not looked into what you would get hybrid wise for that kind of money.
Other option is to buy or lease a new car. Advantage that you get a brand new car, warranty, service plan etc. Disadvantage that it costs more (ball park £5k per year for a 3 or 4 year contract and that's basically just paying the depreciation).
My last two cars (figures are approx as from memory)
Passat 2l TDi highline, 3 years old, 18,000 miles on the clock
Bought from Car Giant for £10.5k. They gave me £400 trade in for my old mondeo which had over 100,000 miles and i'd recently driven through a flood.
Ran the car for 6 years, got £4,000 px when I bought the SkodaSkoda Superb Estate, 2l TSi 220PS
list price £32,000 + £1,000 options
£4,000 trade in for the Passat
£2,500 dealer "contribution"
£1,000 additional discount negotiated
£360 monthly payments for 4 years
£10,500 option to buy at the end of it, which I have just done (alternative would have been to hand the car back and start another contract but I'd have needed to find a deposit and monthly payments would likely be higher). -

Just had a quick look on car giant. £15k gets you a 2018 Toyota Auris hybrid with 40,000 miles on the clock.
Wow. The world definitely got more expensive since I last bought a car.

Are you sure they are genuine minilites or copies?
Not making a comment other than I sold some later minilite lookalikes that fitted a beettle/fulvia and had may idiots commenting that the weren't minilites but copies even tho I stated copies

PCP example that I just had a look at as the kids are on at me to get at least a partially electric car, and a tank of super unleaded cost me over £100 this afternoon:
Kia Niro PHEV
List price £33,000
Deposit £5,000
36 monthly payments £488
Optional final purchase £11,500I've no idea if Kia are any good but they seem to be doing ok at hybrids.
I think I'll keep the big Skoda for a bit longer, though.
~10,000 miles.
