Is this true with disc brakes with the majority of braking forces going through the front and its spokes?
edit. Saying that I have a cheapo set of wheels off of a specialised which are laced 2x/radial on the front, so only 14x spokes transmitting braking forces...

The same is true with rim brakes, the main difference with discs is that the front wheel gets asymmetrically loaded under braking. You can mitigate this by making the hub shell very stiff in torsion (large diameter barrel) as many hubs do. Apparently 20H front disc hubs are fine for relatively light and skilful riders, but wheel manufacturers can't rely on limiting sales to such people so go for 24H.

All braking force always goes through the spokes, regardless of the type of brake. It's the contact between the tyre and the ground where you get the stopping and the tyre is connected to the bike through the spokes.

For a rim brake there is two points on the wheel where forces are being transmitted between the fork and wheel. The rim (via brake) and the hub (via spokes).
This is why disc brake forks require stronger forks as all the braking forces are via the bottom of the fork and forces transmitted to the tyre via the spokes....
or at least this is how I understand it.

Yes, the fork loading is very different. The spoke loading is generated differently, but the end result isn't much different in magnitude.

On an unloaded solo, 24F/32R is a better way to distribute 56 spokes
On road, yes; offroad, especially with rigid forks, the front wheels takes a lot of abuse

And you might as well have 32 spokes 🙂

No idea what the conclusion is but I’ll stick with 28/28. I hope to survive my decision.

It's the spoke count of Mavic Deemax, so bear in mind the limitations 😀
ASTM Cat5: This is a set of conditions for operation of a bicycle that includes Conditions 1, 2, 3, and 4; extreme jumping; or downhill grades on rough trails at speeds in excess of 40 km/h (25 mph); or a combination thereof.
For a longer longevity of the wheel, Mavic recommends that the total weight supported by the wheels doesn't exceed 150kg, bike included -

They’re for a <10kg cross/gravel bike with 77kg rider so I think I’ll be fine.

A couple of changes and updates:
ID#09 @snoops LB have said they will check with their NA team to see if they can get silver spokes, if not I told them you will go with black. Hopefully they'll get back to me today/early next week.
ID#19 @swedeee LB confirmed they have no stock of rear black RS4 28h straight pull, only J-bend. You added a pretty adamant comment about wanting this specifically, let me know if you're happy to tweak the spec slightly.
ID#20 @Joeboat I failed to spot your addition was not sent to LB for preliminary quote, but it's pretty much the same order as ID#11 except Flyweight. I noted down the price as for #11, it might be slightly higher because of flyweight spec, or not, hope you're happy to proceed with that and we can get the final accurate quote next week.
ID#21 @stelfox your preliminary quote from LB has been added to the spreadsheet.
Please note I asked LB to confirm all the specs we have requested are currently available for hubs, spokes and nipples (the rims are custom made, so all are available) and their only remarks are what noted here or in previous posts.
All relevant updates saved in the preliminary quote spreadsheet here. There won't be time to ask LB much more before Sunday, but the mix of options in there should give everyone keen to jump on the order last minute a chance to gauge a price/discount.

if they have 24h straight pull; please go with that. If not then go to J bend on both 24h front / 28h rear (24h rear is also fine). i would even go for silver straight pulls (24h) on both wheels if possible
And thanks again man - really appreciate this

Hey, I updated my order from 2 rims to 1 rim and 1 complete wheel. I changed both spreadsheets accordingly and split my order into two rows which means that everyone's order ID # has been bumped up one. @Giofox I included all the necessary details but left price blank so it won't update my share of the shipping cost properly yet but I assume that won't matter until the final quote comes back after sunday anyway. Thanks!

Please revert this and use the same order ID for all your items, so that no IDs are bumped/changed, you can see this done elsewhere on the sheet. No need to update the quote spreadsheet, just the order one (the one with the LFGSS names and not the prices so to speak)
EDIT: amended this, it was really hurting my OCD

Have updated the original spreadsheet with new spoke count and spoke type

I have started migrating things to a final order spreadsheet. If you are happy to proceed based on the preliminary quote and availabilities from LB please DM me your email, so I will add you to the restricted access final spreadsheet as well as a dedicated group DM where we can add personal information and discuss the details of the order (payment, most convenient delivery location etc.)
Notes:
- Your final order can vary from the preliminary quote, but we won't do any rounds of enquiries with LB for availability/pricing, so just base your decision on what has been priced/confirmed this far. When you are happy your order is final please change the row color in the final spreadsheet to green.
- I have bundled up and moved around a couple of orders, so your final order ID(s) might be different from the preliminary spreadsheet. I have changed nothing else, but you can compare both spreadsheets to double check the details if needed.
- If I have not heard from you by Monday morning, your order will be removed from the final spreadsheet, do not make me chase people pls.
- LB have agreed to a separate branch of this order to be delivered to mainland Europe, with its own shipping and taxes, essentially a standalone order by all means, only benefitting from the bulk order discounts. This might be appealing to some more people (I belive this is currently going to Luxemburg, so you'd have to organise anything from there to final destination). If so, add yourself to the dedicated second tab in the spreadsheet.

Would somebody be kind enough to hoard a few months a pair of pro rims for me?
I'd give 10% of my order to the forum for the trouble. -

Is there a 'go to' carbon frame at the mo? I had an FM066sl a few years ago which at the time was all the rage. I'm after a new frame with a small budget so thought id take a look overseas again.

Something seems to have got mixed up.
I was ID 15 I now appear to be ID 16 but that has two orders against it? -
• #9723
Perhaps I'm not looking at the right spreadsheet as I cant see any green in it

I'll be placing the order in a few days. I think it's only me and a mate doing this but if anyone else wants in, Monday is the cut off.

Ohh, tempting.
In all probability, you'd have had no issues if it had come with 20F/24R🙂
