• is TPD back? During brexit 'crisis' it wasnt an option; my wheels somehow escaped customs though.

    They might have assumed these?
    Will have to clarify that.

EDIT: I assume the price per item will be RRP -30%, let me know if you want me to get them to confirm before Sunday or you're happy to proceed on this basis

  • very very nice indeed

  • is the TPD shipping taxes pre-paid?

Yes, the stated shipping cost includes all the taxes

  • Sorry to be a pain!
I'm happy to proceed if -30% of RRP

Maybe we should put 650b in the notes or something?

  • Just emailed LB for updates on ID#15 (@GoatandTricycle ) and ID#09 (@snoops )

Be glad my day at work is shite - most are tho ;)

  • Is there a group order reference we could use in the future to contact them rather than you doing it?

  • If its not a pro item you only get 5%, thats why im humming and hawing about it. 30% would be amazing and abit annoying its not on everything.

  • Agreed 30% on the Pro rims from the bulk order is the only thing that makes this whole thing appealing.

5% is marginal, but the prices of non Pro items are also lower.

There is also the added fact that tax+shipping is about 20% of cost if ordering alone, whether as part of bulk order that is currently diluted to 15% of cost. Again, not the most appealing, but if someone is going to get rims/wheels done by them anyway it's still better than nothing

  • Wait the prices in that sheet include the ore-paid taxes? That’s amazingly cheap

  • Column "C" is the price of them delivered somewhere in London.

  • That’s amazingly cheap

in this day and age - it certainly is

  • LB came back to me:

ID#15 @GoatandTricycle order changed to WR35 650B, confirmed 30% off, price after discount of $181/piece, spreadsheet updated.

ID#9 @snoops they don't have silver round spokes in stock at the moment, but they proposed "Pillar Wing 20 spokes in oil slick. The price of this spoke is the same as Sapim CX-Ray". Also, not sure you picked up this, but in their quote spreadsheet they changed the hole number in your order from 32H to 28H. I did not enquiry about this, but given they can drill any hole count, I'd assume this is driven by what they have in stock of Black Hope RS4 hubs. Any comments about this?

Updated spreadsheet here for convenience (same as yesterday - all but the above is unchanged)

  • Excellent news, greatly appreciated :-)

  • Thanks for doing all this. Given it makes more sense cost wise, I've updated the spreadsheet to change my order from a wheelset to a pair of rims.

  • Does it? You get more discount on the rims, but no discount on hubs, spokes, nipples and labour. Not to mention they come fully laced up in the same time as the rims.

I think it makes sense only if you already have hubs or buying them as replacement/upgrade rims on wheels you own

  • FOMO. I'm going in.

Thanks @giofox, i will add my order to the spreadsheet tomorrow.

  • By my really quick (and probably flawed) calculation 30% of the cost of 2 x WR40 rims is actually more than 15% of the cost of 2 x WR40 laced up to the bites hubs I was going for. I.e. the saving of just rims is actually slightly more. That is partly because I was going for cheap hubs (so the rims account for more than half of the full wheelset).

The above doesn't take into account the cheap labour etc. But I was very on the fence re full wheels vs rims anyway, as I have another wheel set that I could take some nice hubs from.

  • I think it depends a little on the hub, I was working out the cost of getting just a wr38 rim (my current order) vs. a complete rear wheel (wr38 rims with Hope RS4 hub: the same as order no.9) and it seems to be not that much of a difference.

The hub is currently £162 on SJS, I priced up spokes the same as on light bicycle's web page, plus labour at £60 (roughly what my local wheel builder charges). Didn't factor in nipples but that would be probably offset by the fact that the share of the overall postage cost would be slightly less.

Perhaps given that LB have to source Hope hubs from the UK you're paying slightly more?
Regardless I think the main benefit of ordering wheels over rims in this case is convenience.

  • Attention everyone!

Sending one last round of preliminary queries to LB this eve, likely to be the last chance to get their input ahead of Sunday eve and as some have raised questions I am sending an email anyway.

    EDIT: Email now sent.

  • The oil slick spokes are a bit jazzy for me, I’ll stick with black if no silver. Cheers.

I changed the spoke count to 28. Should be fine for gravel/cross, right? I’m 77kg.

  • i'm going with 28h on my for gravel... i'm 84kg, been running 28h for a number of years now, no probs

  • On an unloaded solo, 24F/32R is a better way to distribute 56 spokes

  • happy to bow to your greater knowledge on this, i find wheel building/options etc a bit of a dark art truth be told... I'm merely reoprting how my off the peg bike came setup, and i've stuck with it as i've head no issues thusly
