Chap at my work keeps telling me about some sort of orange coloured plasticky inner tube that is alledgedly much more puncture proof, if a bit more expensive. He can't remember the name though. Anyone have an idea about what he means/if its actually worth it or just horrible to ride.?

Tubolito?

A bit? They're way more expensive and I'm not sure their claims hold much water

I had a discussion on the gravel thread about them and aerothan and RevLoops. Their main benefit is smaller packsize, so useful for racing and minimal setups.

except for DVD players.

The Tubolito look like a weight weenie thing for golf club crowd. Surprised no Rapha collab.

Packsize bro, it's all about the packsize.
(tho i still can't bring myself to pay £25 for a tube, especially when I carry too much of everything else anyway)

Prob not worth it for me then and that kind of price, now i've seen them. He didn't know how much they were exactly, just had heard of them. He has these sort of solid tyres fitted to his commuter so he's always taking pity/gloating over my punctures (that seem to come in groups)

Semi-solid tyres have been around for decades (well solid tyres since bikes were invented).
They were popular where I grew up because of the jacks and puncture weed and it's flat so the fact they're dead and slow didn't bother anyone because they didn't have to stop 5x on a ride to fix p_nct_res.I assume there's some newer, nicer ones these days (I'm thinking blue foam for some reason)

His look pretty nice, bv no idea how they ride. A bit harsh i think. They last him 2 years of daily commute though so i gues better for the environment even if they do shed micro particles or similar...

Someone mentioned Tannus up thread: https://tannus.co.uk/
I use 1kg/ea vert ramp tyres on my Kona so they may as well be solid tyres :D

Yes, saw that. May look into for my Pearson

I have tubolito for the 29er as a backup in case tubeless fail. Much smaller and fit into my small camelbak.

• #165
Latex maybe, they can be expensive.

I ordered a pair of those Hermetic Conti's. The Tubolito and Tannus discussion are things I never knew about, so it was worth bumping this thread to discover there are tougher options beyond standard tubes.

oof yeah just googled some. Nice colours though.

Going from working in an lbs and getting tubes at trade price on bad days, for free most of the time, to paying brick and mortar prices for them is one of life’s sorest disappointments.

any recommendations for a mini saddle pack / bag to keep my newly purchased spare tube safe while on the road?
Something like this but a bit more sexy.
Thanks

Conti one is the best. Even comes with a tube and tyre lever

:)
Good timing too, tomorrow I'm hopefully doing some laser cutting tests for a revised version of my under saddle tool pack. (Not a tool roll!)

Thanks, did see this, thought it was a little heavy on the branding but tempting.
