The problem you’ll have with just the solvent is it evaporates off quickly. I think part of the function of it being in goo (apart from keeping it in place) is it traps the solvent and stops it evaporating so quickly.
Mix up some wallpaper paste and chuck a bit in. If it’s not the gelling agent for KY jelly (natrosol?), it’s probably the same stuff!
