Did that, immediatly offered 40% discount on new unit which I thought was poor, and they clearly know there is an issue. Thanks, will look at battery replacement.

My bolt is 4 years old now though it's been used 2 or 3 times a week minimum in that time and it has seemingly no battery decline. I recorded a 14 hour ride a few weeks ago with it.
Strange how they can be so different huh. Maybe a batch thing -

Batteries these days like to be kept charged so I wonder if it was left flat for too long and that's caused battery degredation?
-
• #2180
Did it sit for a long time without being charged? From what I understand lithium ion batteries don't like this. It's quite likely the battery cells have degraded which is why you're seeing worse battery life than a more regularly used unit.

Is there an echo in here?

Are circular routes - specifically the King Alfred Way - directional? ie if I load it to my Garmin and then start going anticlockwise, will it keep telling me I am going the wrong way?
-
• #2183
Yes
-
• #2184
Thats going to be annoying then
-
• #2185
RidewithGPS will let you reverse a route
-
• #2186
There may be an option to reverse it. Some have it, I can't remember where though.
-
• #2187
Yep. It's not perfect, so definitely worth checking over the reversed route, but it's definitely quicker than doing it manually. Also, someone has probably done it already so search RWGPS routes.
-
• #2188
cool, reversing it via ridewithgps seems to have worked

Does it matter that the route starts/ends in Winchester, but I will be starting out from Reading?
-
• #2190
Garmin will just pick up the route. But it will "finish" when it gets to the routes finishing point and you'll have to restart it.
You can change the start/end points of a route in RWGPS too though so you could fix it in advance. I rarely bother though.

• #2191
Maybe it did, I don't know, but I couldn't say not.
Maybe we will just swap the battery if easy, I'll look up a guide. -
• #2192
I think I need to split the route at Reading, and then join up the small gap in Winchester, but splitting requires a premium version of RideWithGPS
Anyone fancy doing this for me?
-
• #2193
You can just 'always display' the route rather than navigate it.
-
• #2194
what is the difference? (I've never used my garmin to follow a route before)
-
• #2195
'always display': The course displays as a static, non-directional coloured line on your map (possibly with static labelled waypoints on the map the course file includes them)
'navigate': directional, active navigation cues, rerouting.
So on Sunday I loaded up two North Downs-ish routes, set them to 'always display' red and green, and made up my own route mixing the two, reversing bits.
This is an 830, might be a bit different on other devices.

Put a control point at the split
Save 2 copies of the route
On copy 1-delete the control points after the split
On copy 2-delete all the control points before the split.
Drag the start or end point to the right place -
• #2197
thanks both. i think i'm there now
Another question - is it possible to stop the map rotating instead keeping North at the top of the screen
-
• #2198
Yeah - it's buried in Navigation settings within each activity profile. Although I'm pretty sure some settings affect all profiles...

My Garmin Forerunner 35 has just failed: broken where the straps screw into the watch body (see photo below). I bought it in April 2018 so it's past its 2 year warranty period, and Garmin's response has been to offer a restored device for £66. Given that a new one retails at c.£85 this isn't an amazing offer, especially as the warranty on the former is only 90 days whereas a new product comes with 2 years. On the other hand it will avoid electrical landfill.
Question is to whether this is still the right option for me. Things I like about the F-35:
- "Silent" (wrist vibrating) alarm: helpful for early morning ride wake-ups
- Easy run tracking with optical HR and cadence plus pace measurements etc
- Small and unobtrusive
- Sleep tracking (albeit of dubious quality, like the HR)
Things I don't like:
- Limited lifespan/fragile. This is my second one to break (first one was a digital rather than physical fault)
- Poor quality HR/sleep data
Is there another option of similar price? I don't need emails or music on my watch so this isn't something I'm looking for

Thats pretty pants.
Probably worth reaching out to wahoo they might replace or offer a discount. Otherwise, third party batteries are available.
