  • Nup. Was due end of month. Just when I think I'm free of these scumbags, they pull a dirty trick like this.

  • Moving toilet from the old outhouse into the bathroom; potentially expensive and messy jobs? (Especially as it have to go round upstair neighbour old outhouse).

  • Brand new bathroom in a Loft conversion, it's fine though it's all being sorted cheers.

  • Custom blinds? I'm going to need a few different versions velux/skylight/sliding balcony doors. Anyone know of good London fitters? I'm happy to pay dollar as I really want them to be bang on and completely blackout.

  • I used Kellys Blinds https://www.kellysblinds.co.uk/ who seemed good. Definitely much more competent and knowledgeable than Hilarys who we also spoke to.

Complete blackout is tough though, you may need to consider the windows too.

  • I used Kellys Blinds

Nice one, they're literally a 10 minute walk from my house.

    Complete blackout is tough though

I can put up with it not being pitch black but it's the light leak from the sides that I can't stand.

  • Ten fucking grand!

Fucking hell I didn’t think a couple of new windows, small bathroom window and a new door gonna be over that.

  • Welcome to home ownership!

Although it does seem quite high, it depends what sort of windows you're getting?

  • I wasn't saying you were. You said you weren't sure what the usage case was for mains powered smoke alarms, I pointed out that they are required by building regs (and have been since 1992) so it's not really a choice.

My choice of words probably wasn't very clear, when I said 'apart from that you're golden' I didn't mean you...

  • Never had a false alarm, they look a lot nicer than the cheap ones, you get remote alerts on your phone and they have a nice little nightlight feature. We only needed three though.

The accuracy is the most important thing to me, I'd rather not die a fiery death or have annoying false alarms.

For context our place came fitted with cheap wired ones and one of them had been randomly going off and disturbing the neighbours before we bought the place.

  • Doesn't help at all with home insurance!

  • Rough prices from when I was looking last year was £1k a window, give or take, for a decent finger in the air estimate. Don't know about doors but ours was fully stripped and refurbished with a lot of work on stained glass and woodwork for £6k.

£10k is a lot for what you've listed.

  • What is the forum standard for a home alarm system? ideally without a monthly subscription.

  • I think in Edinburgh the going rate for double glazed sash windows were £1600 a window last year.

  • 10k is a lot for what you've listed.

    It’s with Everest.

    Fuckity bye!

  • 10k is a lot for what you've listed.

Don't use those fuckers, get a local bathroom specialist in.

  • For baby room, I just got some black out curtains from John Lewis over the blinds to eliminate all leaks. But the lift blocking things made a massive difference to our bedroom. The original velum black out ones are also very good on helix windows

  • The guy who did our bathroom fitted new windows. He only does bathrooms, but he does all the work required.

I'd recommend him, but he's working for a loft conversion company these days.

  • Mine was Everest, end of month/quarter/year last year. If you can hold out until December, the sales guy will magically have some more discount codes they can use.

  • It’s with Everest

Do you mean Everest 2020 limited?

Any guarantees would only be as good as the next time they decide to phoenix.
They're proud of their heritage and 10k reviews to get new work. But won't be honoring previous warranty commitments.

    Fuckity bye!

    Good

  • Thanks for the offer but we don't actually have the windows in yet (just holes). I'm hoping to get something made that is flush (seen some perfect fit styles). I'm already pissing cash from every orifice anyway so might as well.

  • so sorry to that. Is that due to class MA?
I heard about class MA recently in the context of the flat I am hoping to buy (2 pics attached, one down the road which looks to have done it). I then asked my solicitor if they could build (I think up to 2 storeys) on top and they said:

The only way that the freeholders could add another floor to the building would be with the consent of the other leaseholders in the block and planning permission from the Local Authority. They would need to consult with the residents in the building before such alterations were made.

Is it definitely a deal breaker? Can't the leaseholders say no PDQ for you?

  • They offer a discount of £1300ish if we decided on the spot (!!).

We asked around, there’s a local one in Brockley we can use instead to do the most important parts, and hopefully not a 13 weeks lead time.
