• Raleigh Liminal

  • Like the custom name/decals idea

  • Top option is really lovely.
I was very pleased with H Lloyd for my custom decals btw.

  • Good call! I didn't know about them. I dropped them a message. Thanks!

  • Hey Oddo! How is your build going on? I want updates :D

  • Haha!
Sorry, this project was temporarily paused in favor of The Hybrid Wanker Touring Broken Wrist Recovery Bike so I have a bike I feel more comfortable riding at this year's brother in the wild (That thread is also in need of an update though).

BUT don't worry. The Raleigh is getting plenty of use (as much riding as I can do atm).
In fact, I took it for its first overnighter on the Downs Link last weekend and it did a brilliant job.

The next step is the mentioned paint job with custom decals and a change for the cockpit. I am not quite if I will stay with drops. I am contemplating some wider Nitto bars with some swept back.

there are a few sets on PX atm for cheap

  • Exactly. I am eyeing the Nitto B354AAF.

If I stay with drops I think I might get some Nitto RM-013. I am definitely changing the stem for an even more classic quill stem. I have sourced two Nitto Technomics and will see which one goes on the bike.

  • those B354AAF would be my first choice too

  • @Oddo question about the mount for the front light. I got the exact same nitto bracket in today and I'm also contemplating mounting my light on the lowrider mount rather than a front rack strut. How's it been illumination-wise? Does the shadow the wheel casts cause any issues?

  • It is definitely casting a shadow and therefore not ideal but good enough I guess. I do have a mini rack though and once that finds its way on this bike I‘ll reposition the light.

Eventually I also want to replace the light with something more classy but that’s a different story.

  • Thanks for that. I suspect I'll go with the rack strut option too.

Thinking something along the Edelux vein?

  • Yeah, I think visually I will need to go for the Edelux II. It would just match the bike well.

  • In other news: I got to try +Maj s Pompino, the small one, to test the Paul Mini Motos and I am a fan! So I guess I need source some funds and get some but they are $$$.

I have also realized by now that I am okay with the friction downtube shifters on the road but I am having trouble developing a feel for them offroad. I thought I would experiment more with the drivetrain where friction shifters make sense but I am actually really happy with what I have now. I have sourced some Dura Ace indexed downtube shifters and will install them soon. If I switch to flatbars in the future I can get thumbie adapters.

  • With the Hybrid Wanker Touring Broken Wrist Recovery Bike in a good place I can come back to this project.

I installed the indexed Dura Ace Downtube shifter. I weirdly managed to install the inner bits somehow the wrong way around which completely threw of the shifting but I managed in the end. They shift great and snappy. Really happy so far.

Time to get back on the bigger tasks. This still needs a new paint job with custom decals. My plans here haven't changed there was just no money for it with the other build going on and for some time this was the only bike I could ride after my accident so I didn't want to take it apart.

Also on the wishlist for this and an essential for the upcoming month are some nice mudguards. Something rigid and in silver. Maybe some Velo Orange Zeppelins?

  • There is actually something else here waiting to be build and at this point, I am wondering whether I should just do a single unified thread.

  • GB mudguards no question

  • GB as in Gilles Berthoud?

  • I have the Zeppelins, good guards, but I'm currently considering smooth GBs, think I prefer a smooth profile guard aesthetically.

  • Do it! Single thread with all of your builds sounds great! Love the Inbred build!

  • The one and only

  • I have some mudguards that I am getting rid off, they are a bit beaten but they are aluminium and could do for your build, PM for more infos :)

  • Cheers, but I think I am going for something new. With the ratty paint, it may not look like much at the moment but it's going to be a shiny beauty once it is repainted.

  • Of course make sense :) I am quite excited to see the result! Will post mine soon when I will have the time to do proper pictures ;)

  • I wasn't able to get any Giles Berthoud Mudguards in the correct size. I ended up buying the smooth Velo Orange ones and I am quite happy with them. Did a quick fit on Saturday before joining the fixedbeersmissions Halloween night ride. With (the ghost of) +|³|MA3K leading us through bits of the Hackney Marshes that was a really good choice and test ride.
I still need to shorten the support stays and I also realized I don't have a thread on my chainstay bridge. I will need to get Winston to put one in before Mario paints it.
Currently it is fit with a ziptie but I was impressed by the overall ease of installation and how rigid they are. No clanky annoying noises.
