I’m starting to think about what to ride in Winter
Is that not what the hardtail is for?
-
• #21482
Yes, but it’s not an XC bike although of course it could be used for bridleways and fire roads. But a little over-specified and somewhat tubby for that role.
-
• #21483
Yeah just use the HT. And a gravel/CX/road bike with 30mm tyres for fireroads etc

Having recently bought an xc bike for xc racing, I would say just ride your hard tail. Coming from the cotic Solaris max I had previously, everything feels a bit more sketchy. You’ll get just as fit riding a hard tail trail bike, but it’ll probably feel more fun.
I only bought an xc bike because I want to go racing.
Also owning an xc bike has made me realise I also need an enduro bike.

Buy a new bike and tell us what trickstuff or formula brakes are like

And I'm not being that snarky, I love maguras and my new mtb will have mt5/4 combo

That Pace hardtail also has mini-sliding dropouts, so can be a winter singlespeed...
Could possibly shorten the travel on that outstanding Helm fork of yours too

the Epic Evo essentially my 2017 Kona Hei Hei less a few degrees on the front. Actually it's probably even closer given my one has 120 on the front.
How modern.
I think im going to go with a Tallboy, but Dammit please don't buy that XL Epic Evo until I've made my mind up please 😉

Allow me to suggest a rigid fork for winter riding.
-
• #21490
A rigid fork and singlespeed could really save Neil some money this winter

MDR-P in centrelock for ‘22, much excite.

I might dust off the ihg fully rigid fat bike for winter. It’ll be easier to clean, will help with fitness and working on handling skills without suspension.
But I’ll also continue with regular turbo sessions.
Though I did buy shorty tyres for winter duties on the Aether.

Cheeky plug here in case somebody of the off-road inclination can make use:
XC Tyre combo. 29er obvs. 50 miles on them. Why for sells? well a minor slice to the side wall failed to seal and I got stranded - I bought something a bit burlier to replace and theyeve been sat in the shed since. So you get a as new Ray, with the nobbles still on it. And a Ralph which just needs a patch, not that I can even find the hole now!
Schwalbe Racing Ray - SnakeSkin Black, 29", 2.25", Addix Speedgrip Schwalbe Racing Ralph Addix Tyre - SnakeSkin Black - Red, 29", 2.25", Addix Speed
How's £30 posted sound for the pair? Paid £100 :(
Help me fund my replacement mountain bike. Please.

Looks like no takers for the Reverb and it’s various remotes - should I list the post with both remotes, or list it with the standard one and the Stealth on it’s own do people think (on eBay)?
And what to ask?

fair play! What groupset is that? Does it still have a clutch rear mech? tempted to go rigid fork and do similar
-
• #21496
Didn't know that was a thing, cheers will do
-
• #21497
Just XT 10 speed cranks, rear clutch mech, front mech and XTR shifters. you can pick it up for bobbins these days. I am running a rigid fork as well.
The 2 x 11 shimano mtb groupsets wear well also, which makes me think its chainline swings that increase the wear.
