Hill Climbs

  • I vaguely remember trying to enter stuff pre-website, CTT have come a long way.

  • Discovered my club have a little three event hc series starting in few weeks, it's only 1.30-2.00 climb and field not likely to be huge but not sure if might be a good way to ease myself back in gently.

  • Details / do you have an entry form?

  • Sign up in person on the night some details up here https://www.worthingexcelsior.co.uk/2021-season.html

First of three events this week, a glutinous long weekend prob wasn't the best prep.

    You local Josh?

  • First hill climb of the season done, tiny field of three, came second after clipping in snafu!

Did all time power for the 43 seconds though to 1.45 (with race lasting 1.45) so prob shouldn’t complain but still bloody will!

  • Good job!

  • Hope push-offers are back this year, got away with Time Atacs last year which are fool-proof but since switching to Favero's just can't get clipped in quickly/consistently when also trying to get moving full pelt

  • This looks pretty handy!

Google doc of the Hill Climbs with strava details etc

  • That's fucking gold! Trying to find segments from TT course codes is a nightmare.

I've signed up for the first couple of weekends of racing. What have you got on the menu?

  • Current plan is

    Kingston Wheelers Leith Hill
    Blazing Saddle Knights Hill
    Bostal Sussex CA
    Bostal Mitre
    Mill Hill Mitre
    Firle Beacon
    Beachy Head Butts Lane
    Denbies Horsham Cycling
    Ditchling Beacon

  • Also there's a Crawley Wheelers Club one Thursday this week

  • So I've started combining tile rides with 100 Greatest Climbs and the subsequent sets.
Tracking in Veloviewer, where you seem to get a mark for riding it and another for how quickly and how well you rank amongst the others.
Took on Muswell Hill today for the first time. Got up in 2:02 with maybe a 85% effort. So was pretty happy with that

  • Bison Hill on the 11th cancelled due to lack of entrants ☹️

  • That's surprising I know all events where inflated last year, but assumed would be similar this year.

I'm having a bit of a wobble on how I wanna approach the season. Might scale back and only do a few. I'm really pleased with my power at the moment but weight has crept up enough to almost completely off-set any gains, which is bloody annoying.

  • Neither my power or weight are going in the right direction 😬

  • FWIW I reckon racing as much as possible without excessive fatigue (including excessive travel) is the way to go. There’s a lot to be said for sharpening technique and getting your head back into racing all out.

  • Your prob right, the whole South down's series are pretty nearby, so not a major obligation.

Done a couple of my own club events and did the Crawley Wheelers event which is fairly similar the Goodwood one. i.e. really not steep at all with reasonable but not amazing results.

Crawley one involved 40k ride there and the same back which prob wasn't super conducive to peak performance.

  • But good for zone 2 volume

  • There's a webinar/briefing type thing this evening about Winats UK Hill Climb Nationals tonight at 7 https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/upIoc-irrDsiGdV9Zc_zAWYaf9Pxn1K_Ns-7?_x_zm_rtaid=kmY7WDQkSgG-yrgqReSSBw.1630488816699.a0f666f9f0a0b122ed563b4220e3b13f&_x_zm_rhtaid=900&fbclid=IwAR2goUkb-ugUPX7k-y1XGx_vED_cRJKRPC44CtGy83bvmUt4rmtTg_YfV-0

Also looks like the date for the Goodwood Hill climbs gona back a few weeks into October

  • What’s the skinny then?

  • Are they going to do anything to control traffic?

I don’t see how you can have two way traffic on Winnats during an event. You only need a bit of decent weather and suddenly the roads round there get busy.

  • Road closed, which apparently was a nightmare to secure

  • 150 male entries, same females.

Small number of slots for previous national top ten.

Rest all decided on this season’s Spindata rankings.

  • Think you need three opens to get a ranking
