  • Adds 'breeders' to I hate thread.

    ;)

  • I got married in London, to try and deliberately avoid most of my extended family who I knew wouldn't come. Plan worked a treat. A friend is getting married next month up in York and it is a no kids affair. Again, this suits me and ms_com fine. I don't really know her that well (the friend, I know ms_com, a bit) and can't be arsed either traveling to York or going to a wedding. So ms_com is heading up for a night in a hotel and I'm staying home with mini_com guilt free.

  • I just don’t go in these circumstances, save them even more money.

  • Not entirely sure it is legal, but WGAF?

Lots of people if you have children. Tax authorities in various situations. Pension providers. Probably a bunch of other things.

  • Love that track (in fact that very video has a thumbs up from me). Please note lack of a capital B in my earlier comment.

  • ☝ Second-best pause in a song of the late 80s-early 90s.

  • ^awesome
    the fugazi clip I mean.

  • People who have weddings

    [furious agreement]

  • I had a wedding, just me, the wife, the registrar and two witnesses supplied by the hotel (wedding planner and head butler) who both promptly buggered off once the butler had opened and poured the booze.

  • This is the only type of wedding that is acceptable, maximum respect

Bonus points for having a butler at your wedding

  • Ok…Wedding fuckabout?
Sit down, I got this covered
I have just emerged from a 3 week 4 event wedding that took place in Oxford, Kent and London.
For me my wife and children we were expected to wear an entirely different outfit to each event.
We would like to have gone on holiday, but that was impossible because of the dates and the clothes, hotels, travel and constant quasi religious shakedowns meant that we spent more than we have ever spent on a family holiday.
I have to admit, it was basically type 2 fun and I have been to a bigger more stressful wedding before.
What I hate is the bridezilla behaviour from my brother and sister in law in their desperate attempt to ingratiate themselves to the Groom’s affluent family. Hijinx such as trying to send family members to the wrong hotel, withholding ceremonial information, rearranging seating plans, literally shoving venerable clerics out of the way to appear in photos. General hyacinth Bouquet shithousery. Weird shit

  • Sounds OTT. I am curious as to how you are related to the groom?

  • I’m an uncle my marriage of the Bride
Crazy but fun wedding…just sometimes it didn’t seem like that.

  • Absolutely. Your wedding might seem like its for you. It is not. Its for your mum n dad n your wee granny and old uncles and your mates.

Whats the point in going to Santorini for your wedding when half your pals and none of you grandparents can make the trip?

Totally on board with the no kids thing though.

ALSO I'm 33, do not put me on a table of strangers so I can meet new people, I dont need anymore new people stick the whole group of mates together.

  • I dont need anymore new people stick the whole group of mates together

100% this. I’ve been stitched up a few times by people who should have known better.

  • I stopped going to weddings over ten years ago... Some people can be quite touchy about it, one VERY good friend hasn't spoken to me since I didn't go to hers... Took me completely by surprise considering at the time I was skint and my other half was really sick... Weird...

    Weddings are awful affairs...

I got married on a tourist boat on the Mississippi river, no family, just two Memphian mates as witnesses and a bunch more for the reception later that night... Every impoverished musician within a ten mile radius got wind and turned up for a feed and a drink, was great fun!

    ...
    was great fun

    Mixed messages there...

  • Ha - club I used to go to played that every week. I knew it was Fugazi but I never knew the name of the track. Unexpectedly one more tiny unknown in my life just got ticked off.

Not in spirit of thread, but it's just been our anniversary so I was looking through the wedding pictures and found the one of us with his parents. His dad died last year and I don't think we've seen that particular picture since he died, so it was a bit of a kick but also really glad we have it.

We did get married in the arse end of nowhere, but we had the decency to do it at the weekend.

  • We also got married in the arse end of nowhere - our hometown.
Rented the Scandinavian Cultural Centre (we’re not) because it was cheap.
Had 90 guests, wanted potluck but MiL wouldn’t hear of it, so we allowed her to pay for catering. Asked for no gifts, got a fair few. We wrote and performed our own ceremony though there were at least 4 members of the clergy there (including my dad) who could have legitimized the whole affair. Was a good time, we had an ersatz dance (my own cassette taped tunes) and my BiL graciously provided the trunk (boot) bar.
    33 years ago today.

  • 33 years ago today.

    Congratulations!
She must reckon you're a keeper.

  • Thanks, holding steady.
