I have an old pair of grensons that my grandpa used to wear. They have had some oil damage to the upper, a stain that has darkened the leather. They have no major value beyond sentimental, and are pretty beaten up.
I was looking at how to deal with the stain, the advice that is easily googleable is basically dont get oil on your shoes, followed by put talcum powder on them. The staiin has been there for too long for this to be an option. Will I need to strip the leather back with something like neatsfoot oil? then re-dye and apply a polish?

£100 ish?

I have tried saphir liquid stain remover on oil from pulled pork... Apart from the fumes giving me a splitting headache it did nothing

I was worried that this just means they are ruined. Which is a shame.
Thanks though

Could try darkening them further? That might hide the stain

I need some new shoes or boots for work.
As recommended way up thread, I got some of the Kavat Chukkas.
They are supremely comfortable after a very short breaking in time. The toes take a polish and almost look steely ish. They are very well made and completely repairable. The tiny down side is the contrast stiching which can make them look like a Dr Marten clone. -

Hmmm I might try that.

You can post shoes to this chap. You'll definitely save money over London prices and he's a professional, technical genius.

Anyone seen the redwing 8130 knocking around in a uk8.5? Guess they’ve been discontinued for a while

Not proper leather, but if I was searching for shoes like this - what search terms would I go with?

They’re just tan suede derby shoes aren’t they? Beloved of history teachers everywhere (and me, actually). Then add the kind of sole you’re after. Or am I missing something? (Very possibly)
(Kind of like Clark’s’ London Desert shoes?)

Thanks anyways.
I need some new shoes or boots for work. I'm on feet a lot, fair bit of walking carrying a heavy bag so they need to be very comfortable. Officially we are supposed to wear steel toe but most choose something that isn't but at a glance might be. Also need to be black. Any recommendations?
