This is the best type of wife or husband to build a bike for. You can build them the perfect bike that you know they would ask for if they knew what to ask for, while they are very happy to not be asked about bike stuff.
Mine thought he cared until he realised it meant having opinions about stuff like which crankset he wanted.

There's that lovely thing on eBay atm, would have been tempted to buy if it wasn't too big for my mum.

Nice as it is, €500 is way expensive. You can find those Merals quite regularly in France for about €100-€200. Admittedly many of the cheaper ones will have lower spec tubing, but the components on that eBay one aren't worth that price. The two shown below are €250 (the Colombus tubing one) and €170 on leboncoin (type "velo meral femme" in the search on there), which would leave you €250-€300 for a nice little return trip to France... ;)

I have tried, but it's got to be a sit-up. We're on a Charge Mandolin now, with upgraded wheels and tyres, and leather saddle and grips, which is progress of a kind, and she does actually ride it sometimes.

You'll get no sit-up hate from me - I love a comfy upright. High Nellies all the way ;)

Le Bon Coin will always be cheaper! Though fair enough in this case the difference is a bit much. Shame on me, I'm French and hadn't heard of Meral before!

Is that a recurring event? Would love to join!

Yeah, https://www.facebook.com/groups/daweskingpin/
Someone leads a ride every month or two but not always London.
Lovely people, as you'd expect, because there's not much crossover between aggressive personalities and fans of small wheeled shopping bikes. (Just don't mention the Raleigh Twenty)
