I've been shilling these on here for years. Glad to see my efforts have not gone in vain :)

What does the Elgato Control Center do?
Single control panel in the Windows System Tray that:
- Controls Brightness
- Controls Colour Temperature
- Allows you to rename your lights
- Allows you to synchronise the controls (turn one light on and they both go on, raise the brightness of one and it raises both to the same brightness, etc)
It is not necessary... when push comes to shove and I'm on Linux, I have the Elgato Control Center app installed on my Android phone and that offers all of the above too. But it is convenient in the system tray.

Sorry for all the questions but when you're on linux does the Stream Deck remember settings you've set up using your phone app? Or does the Stream Deck no longer control the Key Lights when you're on Linux?

How they sound?

agree 100% with what youve said. Too lazy to write it... basically if its for music it should be about the warmth (et al) but if its about clarity cause youre using them to hear calls, then near field sounds good. My experience is from DJs and their equipment vs audiophile type speakers.

Stream Deck relies on an app installed in Windows / Mac. The configuration of which buttons are where depends on which computer it is plugged into (it's a USB device) as it reads the config from that.
For my sanity I use the same layout on Windows and Mac.
If I adjust things via Hue, or the Control Center... then Stream Deck reflects this within a second. It's essentially polling state constantly or registered for notifications depending on what you're controlling with it. So it reflects the state all the time and if I use my phone to flick a light then the Stream Deck shows this.
Just consider the Stream Deck as a customisable set of buttons that is connectable as a USB device. The buttons have displays in them, and this can show you whatever you want and can do so dynamically according to state.

Good, to me
All that matters!!
They're really decently priced which is alluring.

Thanks. If Control Center is at the heart of the workflow and it doesn't run on my 3 yr old OS (Elvato have to take the blame for that one), this becomes a non-starter for me. You saved me a lot of ballache here - much appreciated.

It runs on your phone.
I wasn't betting on either the app or stream deck when I bought them

looking for a nice modern anglepoise like light for my desk (front room dining table) Will primarily be used for making my work area brighter when I'm doing some night working, and also occasionally for putting light on my face for zoom calls when client is in different timezone.
have seen this
https://www.inspyerlighting.co.uk/collections/flos-2/products/flos-kelvin-led-desk-lampand this
https://www.inspyerlighting.co.uk/collections/pablo-designs/products/pablo-designs-link-desk-lampboth of which are much too pricey, but I like the look of them
and this
https://www.lights.co.uk/jielde-signal-si332-table-lamp-with-clamp.htmlwhich has old school anglepoise style but again too pricey.
suggestions for cheaper, but just as good looking, would also need it to clamp to table, rather than sit on it. Desk space is at a premium as I have to pack up and put everything to one side every evening so we can eat dinner.
Thanks

I have these. Good for direct light as well as bouncing off the ceiling. I use the IKEA cold white bulbs (4000K).

Quote fond of the hay fifty-fifty.. ~200 if you're looking for a 'nice' middle ground
thanks for the explanation - it's what I was hoping you'd say.
What does the Elgato Control Center do? It's not compatible with OSX 10.13.6 which I use, so will i miss some important feature? Or does this mean that I'll be forced to get a little Stream Deck to control Key Light Air(s)?
Alternatively I could sack off both Elgato products and get some hue bulbs which work independently of my OS. Planned obsolescence is so frustrating!
