Didn’t assume they’d be instructed to isolate, but it’s not really worth discussing on second thought. It’s shambolic any which way.

Agreed. The people sat immediately around is should have been told to do a test.

How long will that last?
My mum lost her sense of taste and smell in April last year.
Taste still hasn't returned properly. -

Anyway - I’m feeling a bit better but I can’t taste anything. How long will that last?
Over a year for me, I think about 3 months total loss?
-
• #23356
I only lost mine properly for a week. That was horrible enough, I can't imagine what months would have been like!

Lost mine (taste and smell) completely for about 4 days last year, although no idea whether it was Covid related or not, could easily have been any kind of post-viral anosmia. I didn't have any other symptoms of anything.
When taste/smell did come back they came back pretty much overnight whilst asleep.

Same here but several years ago. My appetite went too, so it was like force feeding myself cardboard. Not keen to re-live that.

Colleague of mine was in a car crash 10 years ago. Suffered a minor head injury and concussion which removed most of his sense of taste. Never returned at all.

After rigourous check of UK locator form and negative test results to get on the plane (people still fucking this up and filling them in at the check-in desk LOL) immigration at Stansted completely unchanged with no additional checks of anything.

Joe Rogan now has Covid and is, of course, taking the horse dewormer to treat it.
Given that 4-5 right wing anti-vax Covid denying US talk show hosts have all died from the virus..... Anyway....

Had it a year ago, sense of taste was completely gone for a couple of weeks and came back over the course of about 3 mths. Smell is still only 60-70% off what it was.

I’m hoping it’ll persuade me to drink less. I had a glass of wine last night and with no sense of taste or smell, all I got was the rancid alcohol. It knocked me sick and I’m in no rush to repeat it.
-

Interesting, I lost my taste/smell too but tried drinking straight vodka and it was almost like drinking water, almost no feeling of alcohol.
I just ate boiled rice and vegetables because food seemed like such a waste.

More amazing tales from check-in desks; work colleague witnessed following exchange
"Look I did my test here in the airport 20 minutes ago and you have the results there, my locator form is done, why won't you check me in?""Sir, your test result says you are positive for COVID-19, you are not getting on this plane please leave the airport immediately"

Friend of mine likened living in Canada and needing a vaccine passport to go to a nightclub to living as a Jew in Nazi Germany today.
Thoroughly called him out for being an utter fucking idiot.

I can't cycle or drive at the moment after a recent spine op and walking only gets you so far so I've been using public transport.
Totally shocked by the incredibly low level of mask wearing - a lot of folk really do seem to have swallowed the Tories back to normal cool aid don't they?
-
• #23370
It rally makes no sense to me as the Tories seem hell bent on allowing their more stupid supporters to die which will eat into their majority.
-

It's the selfishness that gets me. Everyone knows masks work, is it really so difficult or uncomfortable to wear one while on public transport when you're effectively in an (often sealed) room indoors with a load of strangers?
I'm going up to Gateshead and back today which will be about 8 hours of transport all in. I'll cope.
Very glad I bought some FFP2 masks, hoping they'll help me not get it.

No vaccination for 12-15 I don't get it as kids can still get long covid.
My son's school is keeping the masks on
in shared areas/buses and windows open policy so that's something at least. Sport on Saturday is back too but no spectators allowed. -

Stayed in a hotel in Gateshead last weekend, crammed buffet breakfast, no masks, business as usual. Felt quite uncomfortable.
-
• #23374
Something I find interesting is how variable mask use is. I've taken public transport a few times in the last few weeks. On some trains, mask wearing has been as low as 20% and on others, it has been closer to 75%. I can't spot any pattern really.
That said, my anecdata suggests that mask wearing appears to be higher on SW trains than SE trains, but obvs could just be coincidence.

I've had two use that one now... ▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️▶️
