  • Oh hold on... do I need the isolators as well?

Oh ffs yeah they're non isolated. So i'd need 2 distributors and 2 isolators.

    re-think needed here.

  • Pedal power does seem to be more complicated than it ought to be.

  • I’ve been lazy on keeping up with gear developments over the last few years so checked with one of the guitarists in my band about power supplies the other day and he basically said the MXR Isobrick is the one to use, so I’m grabbing one of them. I’ll only be running 6 or so pedals though

  • Le sigh. The isolators are 60 bux each and only have 4 outputs so i'd be looking at over 340 by the time I have all the bits I need. Feck that.

  • Innit doh? Boards that fit 12 pedals are easy to come by and seemingly pretty normal practice, but as far as I can see, options to power 12 x 9v are few and far between and up there in new amp territory in terms of price. Def seems more difficult/expensive than it should be.

*insert crying first world problem lady meme here

Is this properly isolated? seems to fit the bill of so...

  • Harley Benton?

  • Nothing you could just run on battery that just lasts ages anyway? Can't remember the last time I changed the battery in my tuner or big muff (obviously don't use them enough then)

  • Voodoo lab has the same issue

I just checked and the Pedal Power 3 Plus definitely has twelve 9v outs. It's just that two of them are switchable for 9v or 12v. There are two additional outs at the end for their expansion bus ("X-LINK").

Very much not cheap though, especially compared to that Harley Benton.

  • Winner! How didn’t I spot that earlier? My search game is weak today. Ordered.

  • 1 spot seems to be 9 x 9v, 1 x 18v and 2 x 4-9v. I don't think any of my pedals can run at 18v which kinda rules that out.

    Fear not!

I use the Truetone CS12, with one of these. Works perfectly.

    Edit: However! The CS12 has:

    2x 18v DC 100mA
    4x 9/12v DC 100mA
    1x 4-9v (variable) DC 100mA
    2x 9v DC 250mA
    2x 9v DC 500mA
    1x 9v AC 800mA

So there are only 11 potential 9v DC outputs - you can’t use the AC output (unless you have an AC pedal, but who does?)

  • Just noticed that the Harley B power brick I ordered is out of stock for at least another week. Bit annoying as spend some happy time assembling the new board yesterday. Hey ho. Maybe i'll spend the time practicing instead. Lol. no.

  • I love my Tele, but the bridge pickup is so much louder than the neck, which is annoying every time I switch pickup. The pickup height is as low as it can go.

I assume I need to do something with my soldering iron, but what?...

  • I've trawled the thread a little but still feel like I can ask... has anyone on here tried the very little practice amps a la Orange Crush Mini, Laney Mini-Superg?

I want something that can be headphones or quiet, pedal board or straight in, for easy living room noodling. Guitarists in my band are telling me that a THR-5 is the only way, but I wasn't planning on dropping £150, more like £50. They both have THR-10s which to be fair, I was v impressed with when they used them for a pre-prod session round my flat.

  • I've been extremely impressed with my Fender Mustang Micro, headphones only obviously but it gets a lot of use at night when the baby is in bed - I pipe music in via bluetooth and just noodle away

  • i have a wee orange crush. it's a tranny as you'd expect with anything ear-goggle friendly. T/M/B with a clean and dirty channel which does a pretty OK approximation of something valvey. cheap, loud and and looks good.

  • Secondhand Blackstar HT1 can be had for £100. But I have a THR5 too and it's more convenient, smaller and sounds good at veeery quiet levels.

  • ^seconded

  • or consider a midi input and just fanny away on your laptop.

  • I usually do just plug into my interface, but I wanna be able to do this on the sofa, all that gear is set up elsewhere for vocal work

Thanks everybody for input, sadly it looks like I’ll be forking out for the THR-5 after all 😂

  • Ha. Saw it coming but still…

  • Lot of TS backlash at the mo. I used to rely for on one to make the guitar (tele through a SF fender amp) cut though in a loud three piece. Found that whenever I tried a less mid humpy pedal the guitar just disappeared. Remember one gig at the Purple Turtle in Camden binning off my new OD3 and switching back to a TS9 mid-gig. I’ve just recently gone back to having one on the board. I always find them anaemic at bedroom levels but great as pushing edge-of-breakup amps (especially fender mid scooped style ones) into the sweet spot.

  • I think they're too big sounding, they suck up all the frequencies in a mix for me... I found this out on a live record I was on a couple of years back, other guitar was a P90 equipped SG into a TS into a Selmer Zodiac, YOU CANNOT HEAR ME!!! 😂

I've never liked them, never liked the Rat either!! Also not a Muff fan, muddy shite!!?

What 'classic pedals' do you all hate?

  • Never liked the Boss OD / DS pedals or either variety (USA/Russian) muff on guitar…
The Boss pedals felt flat and lifeless and the muffs just a bit boring compared to the boutique stuff available that actually sounded the way people described muffs.
