  • EPPING RIDE TOMORROW https://www.komoot.com/tour/443809778?ref=wtd Joined some dots up too and from the station, clicked “mountain bike”
Some of it might be unridable?

doing this tomorrow, 12 from outside the ice-cream shop at clissold, the good one, you know the one has great vegan options

got a mean cyclepath/ offroad rout up, if you fancy meeting us at epping will like be 2-3 or so before we get there, dm for my number will keep u up 2 date

  • Romeo & Giulietta is amazing, but it is a shame Gen Z know this.

  • In case it is not apparent, I am envious of people starting rides at midday and taking a leisurely 2-3 hour roll to Epping Forest.

  • Have fun!

    I miss Epping

  • About to get in the shower

Ngl my route up and out was sick

Thank you @BareNecessities for yours, it was rad as heck!

    Some choice shots

Big day out, good day out, great company

  • Can you make this route public please?

  • Do the aero benefits of fishnets outweigh the chafing side effects? Asking for a friend.

  • I can do!

I need to chop off the bit too and from my house, I’ll route it from tower bridge, the best bridge

@hp93 a good quality stocking will not chafe, Marks and Sparks are quite a good logical increment if you’re in the market

  • Many thanks

  • want to see more of the surly (?) with only front disc brake, looks dope

this starts at the odds in peckham, the only "road" section is tower bridge/the city, and some quite gentle up hill/ fast down hill in chingford which routes through the highstreet before the way back.

otherwise it is all cycle path, cycle route or off road

it was dry ish when we done it, but people done it on 33s, fixed, single speed, 26'rs everyone felt quite happy with their choices, would be a good route if you wanted to take a slower bike out but not be harassed by cars. it's also a good route if you wanted to take someone who doesn't usually ride these sorts of things, after Clissold you cross the lee, it's all segregated cycle path/ off road till you come back home (barring getting a drink in chingford)

BN's epping route is very good, i would suggest bigger tyres and maybe some gears if you wanted to ride it all, but it made great hike a bike having neither of those things, we have legs, it's fine

around walthomstow forest you can get lost, there are some private roads and such, so you're kind of just heading in the direction you need to, that said there is some excellent 'downslope' bits there which flow quite nice, it's quite good, also the first downhill of BN's route is incredibly good, just don't touch the front brake, you'll make it over everything, it looks worse than it is.

i think my total ride time was 5:50 - but if you were a fit and healthy lad, ladette on a mission you could do it sub 5, a lot of our time was my awful gps reading and walking bits / going back.

@rodhusk you'll have to ask @Thrasher for information on that, although i agree, it's a very cool bike!

  • the first downhill of BN's route is incredibly good

    With the bombhole halfway down?

Should have warned you about that really

  • We picked it up near the cafe (which only takes cash apparently, was feeling very smug with a front chest full of sugar and salted potato) at the mid way of the hill from the way we came in, rode the trail up to the top of the hill to the car park/ other cafe/ pub,

The down hill from there, is that a bomb hole? There was maybe 2 big step downs which were quite steep, I reckon you could do it on a cross bike if you were familiar with the trail and got weight all the way back,

I took the second one on the pomp after circling back, again, a few more attempts it would be very sweet, made me wish I had bigger tyres or the homer to just not care and send it over

After these however it’s a lovely flow section down to the bottom, carving, few roots to hop, bum buzzing the back wheel. Very aesthetic all in all

The climb up I got us lost on, again, if you had done it once or twice it’s probably painfully clear but as the only one with the route and being a bit tired I got us turned around a few times, making it to the top we went down the other side to the way we came (we missed off the top loop, I was tired, no one else had the map, I made the executive decision as I couldn’t be arsed to read it), that was good, more muddy and more rooty and a good technical challenge, wider tires would have been nice here but it was not unridable this time of year.

I’d like to go back, do the route again but in a more exploring mindset, leading people around who all have schedules you feel compelled to do it and keep going, I could have spent the rest of the day doing the first down hill again till I had it dialed and then pedalled home, or some of the other “sessionable features”

  • The down hill from there, is that a bomb hole? There was maybe 2 big step downs which were quite steep, I reckon you could do it on a cross bike if you were familiar with the trail and got weight all the way back

That's the one, often stick around there for repeat loops

My fault there. The routes I linked you to aren't so much planned out as simply records of rides that I made up on the day. I recall that actual ride, where I didn't take the correct trail, but carried on anyway through some undergrowth ( people love it when I do that ). I expect that might have been particularly overgrown by this time of year

I see you circled around the little pond anyway, which is always a nice stop

I’d like to go back, do the route again but in a more exploring mindset, leading people around who all have schedules you feel compelled to do it and keep going

I'm hoping to get back there next year, so you're always welcome to join in a badgers ride :-)

This explains it, we had a similar experience, only when we got to the top after some of our own bush exploration did I think “oh that looks like a real route, maybe I missed it”

I'm hoping to get back there next year, so you're always welcome to join in a badgers ride :-)

    Hell yeah!

  • Shame I missed this!! Will turn up to the next one on 25's and SPL-SLs :))
