I've noticed two whisky brands trying to market specifically around summer.
Jameson with 'Beats' from People Just do Nothing -sponsored posts on Instagram drinking neat Jameson on a beach holiday in Greece.
Glenlivet with in-stream Instagram ads for 'Caribbean Reserve'.Odd.

I'm off to Islay over the weekend. Not too many distillery tours are currently operational but we've booked in for Lagavulin and plan to visit the shops at Laphroaig and/or Ardbeg.
Has anyone been and have any top tips?

Got sick of super full on scotch a few years ago, which I think is a rite of passage. Currently on a Campbelltown tip, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran are both excellent.

Recommend me a peaty whiskey to try please? I like Lagavulin 16 (v smooth) but I think I prefer laphroaig quarter cask (stronger flavour?)

Port Charlotte was quite pleasant, smokey but not TCP-y like Laphroaig.
Or Bowmore 12 for a subtle, enjoyable Islay.

Worked your way all around Islay? Ardbeg 10 is a classic and easy to find, and Caol Ila is probably my favourite.
Longrow from springbank is really good as well. The “Peated” is a lovely clean smokey whisky whereas the 18 normally has a concoction of casks that add up to something special. Also try cask strength Ledaig if you can find it.
I’ve gotten rid of all my old sample bottles as I’d otherwise have been happy to send over a few

Caol ila.

Bowmore is also a good one

Amen. Glen Scotia is one of my new faves. Can’t be dealing with all that ashtray full of TCP stuff these days.

Interesting, I prefer the Lagavulin, find the quarter cask too sweet.

Thanks all a good list to explore

Talisker 18 is the king for me 😍
Something I would also recommend that has become my every day (not literally!) is this.

I tried this once and was expecting Octomore levels of smoke and harshness, and the branding put me off, but it was actually really, really nice. Smokey but still had a lot of body and relatively smooth. Probably somewhere between the Laga and the Laphroig.

smokehead is decent, surprisingly - apocryphal rumours it is based on 5/6/7yo bottlings of high quality whisky from a bunch of distilleries on the island
my favourites: ardbeg uigeadail; ardbeg 10; caol ila moch; lagavulin 16
