• Late reply but I have a pair of these and they are probably the most comfortable work boots that I've had.

Didn't have to pay for them myself tho.

  • Those are what I’ve had my eye on. Will be about £150 out of my pocket. I’m starting tomorrow so just gonna wear my old boots until I can ask the advice of what people normally wear on the job.

  • Ended up with a pair of these as I needed a pair to go on site the next day and they were the only ones available locally that were S3, metal free and oil resistant.

    Seem ok and only £75.
Had these on order from Screwfix which finally turned up today, but deffo didn't feel like they were worth £130 after trying them on so just returned them straight away.

  • How about some duck canvas jeans or trousers? Nothing too expensive

  • @ColinTheBald swears by the tanned hides of labourers.

Unless you're outside in Feb etc, those Cat are way OTP. Plus they're rebranded shite.

  • I wasn't keen on them being CAT brand for sure. And they were also way lighter and more flimsy than the picture suggested. With a zip up the side it felt like they were guaranteed to start falling apart.

  • That isn't entirely true, I use the tanned hides of FAT labourers, I like movement room in my kit, I use moderately sized labourer skins tanned for 3 months in human urine as undergarments.

Bootswise, I use Le Chameau neoprene lined wellies in winter, cheapie trainers in summer. I take my own risks with my toes, I still have all 10. I hate toecaps.

  • I hate toecaps.

    Really?

They always speak highly of you, when I ask.

  • You have clearly not spoken to toecaps which posess a sense of smell.

  • See also: I had an arsehole transplant, it rejected me.

  • Fat labour is best labour, it's the wiry ones you've gotta watch: like a Jack Russell on speed.

Plus they're shit as a windbreak.

  • I kinda want to make a tradespeople thread for this reason - I don't have anywhere else to moan/celebrate minor things of this nature.

  • Same here, but... who's interested in the day-to-day work trivia of a bored old knacker marooned in a Hungry Horse in Bedfordshire (I think).

  • PS How those £180 boots working out for you?

  • Everyone. You'd be surprised.
Who wanted to hear about the bored musings of someone working in a printers in Yorkshire?

  • If only I was half as entertaining...

  • Start sweary.

  • Heads up to anyone in Bristol who's a medium V nice Filson 4 pocket work jacket in the vintage thrift store on collage Green Rd 60 quid looked in decent condition.

  • Ultimate dredge, missed this first time round. My arm was forced and I ended up with a set of Puma boots from Arco as I needed a pair that day to get onto a job and they were the only boots available that were metal free with sole plate, oil resistant and s3 rated. They’re holding up alright tbh.

I’m now eyeing up fancy wellies as I’m working in the mud all the fucking time at the moment (also looking for a new job as a result of this, lol).

  • Also, do waterproof work trousers exist? Seen lots of overtrousers, but would quite like something that’s a bit warmer and more comfortable if I’m out in the rain all day.

  • These seem to be THE wellies to have on site. Not sure I can be arsed to drop £80 on wellies right now tho.

  • Damn, if this was a small... thanks for the heads up, may check it out just in case anyway...

  • Def worth looking. IT looked on the smaller size of medium. 2nd or third rack from right tan / brown with red blue checked lining also spotted a green LL bean coach jkt in green that was quite nice.

  • Cheap and very warm boot recommendation?
Not out in the weather but my workshop is mad cold all the time during winter.
I usually wear 2 pairs of boot socks and still freeze.
Need toe caps but aside from that I’m looking to prioritise warmth over anything else...
