I can thoroughly recommend, I’ve been commuting on one for 5yrs, it’s a bit of an ugly duckling so had it painted and on its 3rd groupset with me but the frame is great, that’s a bargain.

yep if it was a size 60 I'd be all over it, since I'm looking for something similar
-
• #64855
actually on that note, any idea how large a tyre you can get in the back?

And a pair of RS80 wheels for only £55!

Sick looking bag

Have thought about it for days, but i have decided that I am neither a world champion or able to pull this off.

I decided that I'd stick in a cheeky offer - which was reasonably countered and deftly accepted. I definitely don't need another bag, but simultaneously I've never needed a bag more. Thankyou for the heads-up!

I have a custom bagaboo, it's survived falling off my motorbike at 60mph and various other abuses. Rock solid

I’ve managed to squeeze a tubeless 32 in the rear, mounted on a newer slightly wider open pro rim, definitely no more than that. As an aside I’ve also managed to squeeze pdw guards in there too albeit with a little persuasion. I don’t know if the oe carbon fork will take that as I changed to steel.
-
• #64861
Fab, that sounds ideal. I've got a mid reach steel fork lurking around that swallows a 30mm tyre with room to spare so will probably use that on whatever I find.

They do pop up from time to time but shame that one doesn’t fit as it’s a decent price, there was one sat on eBay, might still be there? for ages but it was an eye watering £1200 or some other ridiculous figure. I’ll need to measure mine now, it’s definitely bigger than 57 so may well be a 60 if that’s the next size up.
-
• #64864
Yep I saw that one. Essentially im looking for something similar to my thorn audax which was perfect apart from the 72 degree seat angle. I use an smp so even with an in-line post I couldn’t quite get it in the right position. The Dawes seems like a great option, is the ride and handling in the biggest size nice?

So far in my ownership it’s seen off a carbon Synapse and a caad12, not that it necessarily did anything better than those two or was lighter/faster etc etc but it was always the bike I reached for first…

Trying to work out the stack & reach on this. Would you be able to measure the fork on yours for axle-crown please?
-
• #64867
No problem, I’ve still got the original so will measure this afternoon.

this for the dawes? i'd guess close to 378 axle-crown so rough geometry would likely be very close to this https://www.bikegeocalc.com/#7Unnameda0b4c760d275e598.11125f821.52725g1022.87939h408.46803i340j340k1367.9015l849m1160n695.47136o1206.93842p929.87901q1238.62989r1370.37092s935.94998t31.8u40v6w12x16y280z40A0B150C25D375E50F172.5G30H30Z

I thought it might be slightly shorter, maybe 370-375mm but the external headset adds a bit of stack. My current bike is 402/582mm and your geo puts this at 400/574mm. Close enough to sort with an extra spacer if I’ve miscalculated the headset height.
If it’s shorter then it’s just the stack which is a potential issue but again the steerer looks long enough, maybe 3cm of spacers on it above the headset cup.
I’ve made an offer…
Edit: and he’s accepted it. I guess I’ll find out how long the fork is now!

• #64870
Oh nice! I kept looking at it but was unsure on the size.
-
• #64871
i'd be very surprised if a mid reach brake fork has an axle to crown has anything less than ~378mm. Most carbon and pretty much all steel replacements you'd find from spa or thorn are about that range.
Also congrats on new bike day!
-
• #64872
Well if that’s the case then it’ll be just about perfect. Thanks and thanks!
-
• #64873
Had a quick measure and appears the a-c on my fork is @375 give or take, my somewhat diminished hand eye coordination being a new cause for concern…..
-
• #64874
That’s great, thanks a lot. This is shaping up nicely so far.
